1. Servier denies concealing 2,000 dead risk with Mediator diabetes drug
Although Servier earlier this year acknowledged there was a “real risk” that its now-banned Mediator appetite suppressant was linked to heart-valve damage, the French drugmaker is denying allegations by government investigators that the risks were deliberately concealed. The episode, in which as many as 2,000 deaths may have linked to the pill, is causing a scandal among regulators and doctors as well. Meanwhile, a squabble has broken out among doctors over the extent to which, if any, they may be held liable for prescribing Mediator, according to Le Monde. The French health ministry indicated doctors may have to compensate victims, although a union representing doctors says the government is seeking “scapegoats” to paper over its culpability in allowing the Servier drug to remain on the market, despite risks.

2. Seven girls die in controversial vaccine trial
The tale of the controversial cervical cancer vaccine trials in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat has become murkier with fresh evidences showing the complicity of the state government and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to push the unethical trial in clear violation of all norms. Andhra Pradesh government issued an official order asking hostel wardens and principals of schools to sign the consent form on behalf of their parents. In some cases, illiterate parents were asked to give their thumb impression on the consent without any explanation before their girls were administered the vaccine. Seven adolescent girls in the state reportedly died during the trials.

3. Maryanne Godboldo's daughter released as state vs. parents wrangle over Risperdal & vaccines
Maryanne Godboldo favors holistic treatments for her 13-year-old daughter.
Maryanne Godboldo's supporters will gather today for a reunion party at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit. They're celebrating the fact that Godboldo's 13-year-old daughter -- at the center of a struggle between her parents and the state over her medical care -- was released Friday from a medical facility in Northville into her aunt's care. Godboldo, who has garnered significant community support, says she has the right to determine her daughter's care and had been weaning her off a prescribed psychotropic drug in favor of holistic treatments. Dr. Margaret Betts, the family's physician and friend, said Godboldo's daughter used to be active -- she danced, was in choir, took horseback riding lessons. But a series of immunizations in 2009 changed her. The trial in the case is set to begin in June.

5. Manning paying for busting US 'illegal, stupid foreign policy'
Washington is coming under increasing fire over its treatment of Bradley Manning, the U.S. soldier accused of leaking classified documents to WikiLeaks. "I think the government has created a lot of secrecy over the Bradley Manning case, because he is revealing a lot of their secrets. And if they open this up he may even reveal more. They don't know that he revealed them. In other words, they have not yet presented evidence that Bradley Manning was the source of WikiLeaks," said Saul Landau, Senior Fellow and Vice Chair of the Institute for Policy Studies, in California. “And what WikiLeaks has done essentially has been the great crime of national security era which is to show that the government is operating illegally and stupidly in terms of its foreign policy.” Saul Landau made the comments in an exclusive interview with Press TV's U.S. Desk on Monday. Landau believes the documents published by WikiLeaks have not d one any harm to people but rather revealed U.S.' illegal interference in other countries' affairs. Manning could face up to 52 years in prison if convicted. www2.insidenova.com. U.S. military has blocked a top U.N. official from privately seeing Manning. Juan Mendez, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Torture, said he was "deeply disappointed and frustrated" that he was not allowed to have an unmonitored visit with Manning.

6. Disabled children applying for bus passes abused on council's 'wall of shame'
The alleged 'wall of shame' at a Kent Council transport office.
Pictures of children 'who looked different' on display for months. Council launches investigation into allegations. An investigation has been launched after council staff apparently mocked disabled children by putting pictures of the youngsters on a 'wall of shame'. An insider at Kent County Council claims that workers at the school transport office singled out photographs of children 'who looked a bit different', regularly referring to them as 'mongs' and 'mingers'. It is believed the pictures were sent in by the parents of the children as part of school bus pass applications. The source said: 'I was appalled by what was going on. It made me sick to the stomach.'
