On May 5, 2011, "Abu Al-Fadl Al-Madi," a prominent writer on the Shumukh Al-Islam jihadist forum, authored a post in which he suggested that Al-Qaeda not respond impulsively to U.S. President Barack Obama's announcement of the assassination of Osama bin Laden, but that it focus its efforts on retaliatory operations.

Al-Madi called on Al-Qaeda to establish a special unit to prepare a list of wanted individuals, to include everyone connected to the bin Laden assassination, and to pursue them, even after they leave their positions.

He called on the organization to focus the retaliation operations in the U.S., Israel, and Pakistan, with all targets permitted in the first two countries.
