Iran is sending a solidarity flotilla to Bahrain, a move that could escalate regional tensions around the island kingdom's crackdown on mostly Shiite protesters.
Iran's English-language Press TV reported on Monday that 120 activists--many of them professors and students--were aboard the naval convoy. [Foreign Confidential analysts say the passengers and crew include Iranian intelligence and military officers belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.]
The Iranian Fars news agency said the flotilla consists of two ships and left from the port of Dayyer.
Press TV said the activists will ask Bahrain for permission to enters its waters, but added the request will not likely be granted.
Reuters reported that the head of Bahrain's Information Affairs Authority told Al Arabiya television that the flotilla is "a blatant interference in Bahrain's internal affairs."
Hundreds have been arrested and dozens put on trial in special courts since protests in Bahrain were crushed in March. A state of emergency is due to be lifted on June 1.
Bahraini officials have said 24 people died in the unrest. According to human rights groups, the government has arrested hundreds in the aftermath of the protest.
Bahrain's top military leader says foreign forces will remain after it lifts emergency rule next month. Led by Saudi Arabia, a 1,500-strong foreign military presence has been in Bahrain since March.

Foreign Confidential analysts agree--and disagree. Long-range rocket bases are also in the works, analysts say, because Iran intends to attack the United States with nuclear warheads.

POSTSCRIPT: Another change for the worse--the Islamizing of the Arab-Israeli conflict, thanks, in part, to the pro-Islamist policy of America's first Muslim-born-and-reared and most leftwing-ever President, Barack Hussein Obama, whose so-called outreach to "the Muslim world" has effectively validated the Islamist idea of an ascendant, global Muslim nation united by belief in "the Holy Koran" to an extent that transcends all national, political, ethnic, and geographic boundaries. Obama has narrowed the definition of the Islamist enemy to Al Qaeda, Al Qaeda affiliates and offshoots, and "irreconcilable" Taliban elements. Every other Islamist organization and group is OK to engage (appease and attempt to align with), according to this President and his henchpersons, including the notorious Samantha Power, a dual national, Irish-American leftwing extremist, who clearly regards Israel's miraculous rebirth as a catastrophe.
