How does he reconcile such crippled thinking? Also, the question must be raised: if Osama bin Laden was not a Muslim leader, but was instead a “mass murderer of Muslims,” why was the government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan protecting him? And they were: Osama was not living in a cave. He was living in a mansion outside of the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, and that’s where the American forces found and killed him. Osama was living in a splendid complex, a fortress that was built specifically for him near Islamabad. If that is so, then clearly the ISI, Pakistan’s spy service, knew where he was all along. He has apparently been there since 2005. He was there with his son and his youngest wife. So there is no way that the Pakistani government didn’t know that he was there. Why now? Why did Pakistan allow this to happen after years of sheltering bin Laden? What did Barack Obama have to give up to the Pakistanis in order to make this campaign-bolstering deal for Osama bin Laden? The name of the courier to OBL took eight years of intelligence work to identify the person and the compound. The very techniques that Obama and Holder have stopped and fought to reverse. Obama railed against these interrogations and wanted to prosecute the CIA interrogators who led to this capture. Barack Hussein Obama last night: I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden..... I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action... Of course he signed off on it -- you mean, he wouldn't? The New York Times reports: After years of dead ends and promising leads gone cold, the big break came last August. A trusted courier of Osama bin Laden’s whom American spies had been hunting for years was finally located in a compound 35 miles north of the Pakistani capital, close to one of the hubs of American counterterrorism operations…. Detainees at the prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, had given the courier’s pseudonym to American interrogators and said that the man was a protégé of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the confessed mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks. American intelligence officials said Sunday night that they finally learned the courier’s real name four years ago, but that it took another two years for them to learn the general region where he operated. Marc Theissen writes here: What else KSM and Abu Faraj have in common: Before coming to Gitmo, both were held by the CIA as part of the agency’s enhanced interrogation program, and provided the information that led to bin Laden’s death after undergoing interrogation by the CIA. In other words, the crowning achievement of Obama’s presidency came as a direct result of the CIA interrogation program he has denigrated and shut down. Something the president forgot to mention last night, when he claimed credit for “the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat al Qaeda.” The president owes some thanks—and apologies—to the men and women of the CIA’s interrogation program. So Guantanamo detainees provided the key intelligence that allowed the CIA to track down bin Laden. But not just any Guantanamo detainees. It turns out the detainees in question were KSM and Abu Faraj al-Libi, the man who succeeded KSM as al Qaeda’s operational commander, when the 9/11 mastermind was captured in 2003. Following KSM’s capture, Abu Faraj was designated by bin Laden as his official messenger to his operatives in Pakistan, and even moved his family to Abbottabad—the city where bin Laden was killed—to carry out that role. He continued serving as bin Laden’s messenger until his arrest in 2005. I think it is outrageous that they bathed him and gave him his religious rites before his Islamic burial at sea. Is O nuts? Here are the men who killed Bin Laden: From Ghazi Air Base in Pakistan, the modified MH-60 helicopters made their way to the garrison suburb of Abbottabad, about 30 miles from the center of Islamabad. Aboard were Navy SEALs, flown across the border from Afghanistan, along with tactical signals, intelligence collectors, and navigators using highly classified hyperspectral imagers. After bursts of fire over 40 minutes, 22 people were killed or captured. One of the dead was Osama bin Laden, done in by a double tap -- boom, boom -- to the left side of his face. His body was aboard the choppers that made the trip back. One had experienced mechanical failure and was destroyed by U.S. forces, military and White House officials tell National Journal. Were it not for this high-value target, it might have been a routine mission for the specially trained and highly mythologized SEAL Team Six, officially called the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, but known even to the locals at their home base Dam Neck in Virginia as just DevGru. This HVT was special, and the raids required practice, so they replicated the one-acre compound. Trial runs were held in early April. DevGru belongs to the Joint Special Operations Command, an extraordinary and unusual collection of classified standing task forces and special-missions units. They report to the president and operate worldwide based on the legal (or extra-legal) premises of classified presidential directives. Though the general public knows about the special SEALs and their brothers in Delta Force, most JSOC missions never leak. We only hear about JSOC when something goes bad (a British aid worker is accidentally killed) or when something really big happens (a merchant marine captain is rescued at sea), and even then, the military remains especially sensitive about their existence. Several dozen JSOC operatives have died in Pakistan over the past several years. Their names are released by the Defense Department in the usual manner, but with a cover story -- generally, they were killed in training accidents in eastern Afghanistan. That’s the code. How did the helos elude the Pakistani air defense network? Did they spoof transponder codes? Were they painted and tricked out with Pakistan Air Force equipment? If so -- and we may never know -- two other JSOC units, the Technical Application Programs Office and the Aviation Technology Evaluation Group, were responsible. These truly are the silent squirrels -- never getting public credit and not caring one whit. Since 9/11, the JSOC units and their task forces have become the U.S. government’s most effective and lethal weapon against terrorists and their networks, drawing plenty of unwanted, and occasionally unflattering, attention to themselves in the process. JSOC costs the country more than $1 billion annually. The command has its critics, but it has escaped significant congressional scrutiny and has operated largely with impunity since 9/11. Some of its interrogators and operators were involved in torture and rendition, and the line between its intelligence-gathering activities and the CIA's has been blurred. But Sunday’s operation provides strong evidence that the CIA and JSOC work well together. Sometimes intelligence needs to be developed rapidly, to get inside the enemy’s operational loop. And sometimes it needs to be cultivated, grown as if it were delicate bacteria in a petri dish. In an interview at CIA headquarters two weeks ago, a senior intelligence official said the two proud groups of American secret warriors had been “deconflicted and basically integrated” -- finally -- 10 years after 9/11. Indeed, according to accounts given to journalists by five senior administration officials Sunday night, the CIA gathered the intelligence that led to bin Laden’s location. A memo from CIA Director Leon Panetta sent Sunday night provides some hints of how the information was collected and analyzed. In it, he thanked the National Security Agency and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency for their help. NSA figured out, somehow, that there was no telephone or Internet service in the compound. How it did this without Pakistan’s knowledge is a secret. The NGIA makes the military’s maps but also develops their pattern recognition software -- no doubt used to help establish, by February of this year, that the CIA could say with “high probability” that bin Laden and his family were living there. Recently, JSOC built a new Targeting and Analysis Center in Rosslyn, Va. Where the National Counterterrorism Center tends to focus on threats to the homeland, TAAC, whose existence was first disclosed by the Associated Press, focuses outward, on active “kinetic” -- or lethal -- counterterrorism missions abroad. Its creation surprised the NCTC’s director, Michael Leiter, who was suspicious about its intent until he visited. That the center could be stood up under the nose of some of the nation’s most senior intelligence officials without their full knowledge testifies to the power and reach of JSOC, whose size has tripled since 9/11. The command now includes more than 4,000 soldiers and civilians. It has its own intelligence division, which may or may not have been involved in last night’s effort, and has gobbled up a number of free-floating Defense Department entities that allowed it to rapidly acquire, test, and field new technologies. Under a variety of standing orders, JSOC is involved in more than 50 current operations spanning a dozen countries, and its units, supported by so-called "white," or acknowledged, special operations entities like Rangers, Special Forces battalions, SEAL teams, and Air Force special ops units from the larger Special Operations Command, are responsible for most of the “kinetic” action in Afghanistan. Pentagon officials are conscious of the enormous stress that 10 years of war have placed on the command. JSOC resources are heavily taxed by the operational tempo in Afghanistan and Pakistan, officials have said. The current commander, Vice Adm. William McRaven, and Maj. Gen. Joseph Votel, McRaven’s nominated replacement, have been pushing to add people and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance technology to areas outside the war theater where al-Qaida and its affiliates continue to thrive. Earlier this year, it seemed that the elite units would face the same budget pressures that the entire military was experiencing. Not anymore. The military found a way, largely by reducing contracting staff and borrowing others from the Special Operations Command, to add 50 positions to JSOC. And Votel wants to add several squadrons to the “Tier One” units -- Delta and the SEALs. When Gen. Stanley McChrystal became JSOC’s commanding general in 2004, he and his intelligence chief, Maj. Gen. Michael Flynn, set about transforming the way the subordinate units analyze and act on intelligence. Insurgents in Iraq were exploiting the slow decision loop that coalition commanders used, and enhanced interrogation techniques were frowned upon after the Abu Ghraib scandal. But the hunger for actionable tactical intelligence on insurgents was palpable. UPDATE: Then Sen. Obama ridiculed the Rendition Program as unAmerican and promised to end. WARREN, Mich. — Authorities say a Minnesota man killed his 20-year-old stepdaughter in Michigan because she left home and wasn't following Islam.
Rahim Alfetlawi, 45, was being held today in the Macomb County Jail without bond after being charged with first-degree murder in the death Saturday of Jessica Mokdad at her grandmother's home in the Detroit suburb of Warren. He was arraigned Monday and awaits a May 12 preliminary examination.
Warren Police Detective Lt. Michael Torey says the Coon Rapids man went to police in neighboring Center Line to report the shooting. Torey says Alfetlawi told police the gun accidentally discharged when he pulled it out but police believe he intentionally shot her in the head.

In 1977 Zogby co-founded the Palestine Human Rights Campaign, which served as the propaganda arm of Yasser Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organization.
Two years later, Zogby campaigned to prevent the extradition of Ziad Abu Eain, a Fatah member accused of taking part in a 1979 bombing which resulted in the deaths of two Israeli civilians and the wounding of thirty-six others.
In 1980 Zogby co-founded and served as the Executive Director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), created as a counterweight to the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish civil rights organization.

In 1985 Zogby established the Washington, DC-based Arab American Institute (AAI), an organization that conducts voter-education and voter-registration initiatives aimed at increasing the political influence of Arab Americans. Zogby's brother John, who runs the aforementioned polling firm Zogby International, is an AAI board member.
James Zogby has played a major role in Democratic Party affairs since the early 1980s. In 1984 he served as an advisor to Jesse Jackson's failed presidential campaign. In 1988, while serving as a member of the Democratic Party's National Platform Committee, Zogby introduced a plank in support of Palestinian statehood -- an issue he would later address in front of the Democratic National Convention. In the 1990s Zogby gained political favor with the Clinton administration, which allowed him to promote the establishment of U.S. investments in Palestinian businesses in Gaza and the West Bank.
Zogby and Clinton did not always see eye-to-eye, however, and in January 1995 Zogby criticized the President's executive order designating a number of Islamic extremist organizations as terrorist groups. According to Zogby, such designations would have negative repercussions for Arab Americans.
When the U.S. government arrested the Hamas political leader Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook in July 1995, Zogby warned that Marzook's capture would ultimately prove to be “destructive and not helpful to the peace process.”
While Israelis and Palestinians were at work on the Oslo II accords in 1995, Zogby penned the article “This Peace Is Not Yet Peace,” wherein he blamed Israeli intransigence for derailing any possibility of progress. Rationalizing Palestinian terrorism as nothing more sinister than “desperate acts of striking out against the master,” Zogby said:
In 1999 Zogby was elected to be the co-convener of the National Democratic Ethnic Coordinating Committee, an umbrella organization comprised of U.S. Democratic Party leaders.
In October 2000, Abdurahman Alamoudi, founder and Executive Director of the American Muslim Council and an Islamic affairs advisor for the Clinton administration, spoke at a rally where he emphatically declared his support for the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah. In response, a number of political candidates who had received campaign contributions from Alamoudi quickly sought to distance themselves from any controversy by returning those funds. Zogbydecried their actions as capitulation to "a shameful hysteria campaign of McCarthyism."
Characterizing Hamas-perpetrated terrorism against Israelis as an understandable part of "a cycle" of violence, Zogby has stressed the importance of trying "to understand why the [Hamas] perpetrators acted as they did or why there are people whose anger and despair bring them to support this or that crime."
Zogby also has respectfully described the Hezbollah terrorists of southern Lebanon as "the Lebanese armed resistance."
By contrast, he has referred to Israelis as "Nazis," and has portrayed Israel's actions against a PLO insurgency during the 1982 War in Lebanon as "a Holocaust."
Zogby scoffs at the notion that fundraising efforts by Muslims living in America may be in any way connected to overseas terrorist groups:
Zogby also condemns what he perceives to be widespread civil liberties violations directed against Arab Americans in the post-9/11 period. “The USA Patriot Act and initiatives launched by the Attorney General in the aftermath of September 11,” says Zogby, “have endangered basic constitutionally protected rights of due process and judicial review.” (there's much more here)
Operating on an annual budget of about $1 million, AAI's major activities include the following: convening national and local organizations for "national leadership summits to respond to crisis situations"; holding meetings with policy-makers and U.S. government officials; helping establish Arab American Democratic and Republican leadership councils; hosting events at national and state party conventions; conducting get-out-the-vote drives and candidate forums; "registering and informing" Arab American voters in "key" states; producing a variety of issue briefs on topics of concern to Arab Americans; publishing an annual "congressional scorecard" detailing how elected officials have voted on various matters; periodically organizing member-mobilizations; conducting polling and research of Arab American voters; and organizing trips to the Middle East for members of Congress and other U.S. delegations.
AAI also conducts media outreach and provides public information via several regularly distributed publications, including: (a) its weekly e-newsletter AAI Bulletin; (b) Countdown, a weekly update that covers political developments in Congress and the White House; and (c)AAInsider, a seasonal magazine for Institute members.
Moreover, AAI co-founder, President, and leading spokesman James Zogby is the author of Washington Watch, a weekly column for the Arab World and the Arab American press. Zogby also hosts Viewpoint, a weekly policy program that airs on Abu Dhabi TV and Link TV. Formerly the Executive Director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, Zogby is a major figure in Democratic Party affairs. He advised Jesse Jackson's 1984 presidential campaign and was close to President Clinton.
James Zogby's brother John, who runs a polling business, is an AAI Board member, along with international marketing executive and AAI backup spokesperson Jean Abi Nader. The Institute's Executive Director is Nidal Ibrahim, formerly the founder and publisher of Arab American Business Magazine. AAI's Chairman is the Republican George Salem, a partner in the Washington, DC law office of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, a firm that has been prominent in defending Saudis accused of involvement in terrorism.
Subdivided into numerous community branches, AAI is extremely active on university campuses nationwide. Prior to September 11, 2001, the organization enjoyed immense popularity in the U.S. media, especially among liberal and peace-oriented American Jews, for its seemingly moderate position on the Arab-Israeli conflict. Following 9/11, however, the tone of AAI's public pronouncements underwent a striking change; with ever-increasing frequency, the Institute denounced its opponents as racists, extremists, and Zionist agents. Moreover, it vehemently denied charges that Saddam Hussein had ever supported terrorism. According to Islam scholar Stephen Schwartz, in the wake of September 11th AAI "moved from the center to the extreme left of the American public square."
Among the issues AAI is currently focused on are: opposition to America's war against Iraq; opposition to Israel's construction of a barrier in the West Bank to prevent would-be terrorists from entering areas populated by Israeli civilians; and the denunciation of former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak's land-for-peace proposals at Camp David in 2000. Characterizing Israel as a brutal oppressor of the Palestinian people, AAI was a signatory to a May 20, 2004 Joint Muslims/Arab-American Statement on Israeli Violence in Gaza, which "strongly condemn[ed]" Israel's "indiscriminate killings of innocent Palestinians, including many children," and its "demolition of Palestinian homes."
AAI also denounces what it depicts as widespread civil liberties violations directed against Arab Americans in the post-9/11 period. "The USA Patriot Act and initiatives launched by the Attorney General in the aftermath of September 11," says James Zogby, "have endangered basic constitutionally protected rights of due process and judicial review."
"Since 9/11," Jean Abi Nader concurs, "Arab-Americans have watched their dream of being fully a part of American society subject to the stresses of federal initiatives … that produce fear and intimidation in their community. … Being an Arab has become a liability in this country. We are being told, essentially, that we are not good enough. … The civil liberties of Arab-Americans and American Muslims came under attack, and we have been treated increasingly as second-class citizens in this country." Abi Nader further laments the "systematic degrading of Islam by conservative Christians, neoconservatives and the right wing," who he portrays as chief among those who view Islam as a "religion of liars and terrorists."

OSAMA BIN LADEN IS DEAD
Breaking -= FOX News is reporting that Muslim leader Osama Bin Laden is dead and that the US has his body. Obama to address the nation, I hope he doesn't get choked up --CBS Congressional producer Jill Jackson reporting House Intelligence Committee aide says Obama will announce Osama bin Laden is dead.
CNN and other news outlets are reporting that the President will make a televised statement at approximately 10:30 PM ET. But, there's no indication yet as to what it's about. (America Blog)
