Why is Glenn in Israel?
Glenn took a trip out the country this past weekend, and explained why he made the journey to the other side of the world on radio this morning.
“I only know one successful democracy, if you will, in the entire Middle East, one that doesn’t stone homosexuals, force its women not to drive or go outside of their homes without a man by their side, and that’s Israel. It’s the only one I know,” Glenn said.
“Me not being Jewish, me not being a minority, me growing up in the tulip capital of the world outside of Holland, I really haven’t had a tough life. I really haven’t had many problems. I’ve never really experienced any kind of discrimination.”
“But I have sensed things, because I am a student of history, and trouble is coming. And trouble is coming all over the world because there is a fight for democracy and not a fight for freedom.”
“It’s Memorial Day on Monday and I wanted to be here for the sirens. At 11:00 on Memorial Day sirens all across Israel go off, and the entire country comes to a halt for two whole minutes. I don’t care if you’re at an airport as I was. I actually wanted to be on the highway. I was at the airport. Others in our party were on the highway already. And the entire country stops for two minutes. If you’re driving in a car, even the radio stations play the sirens and you pull your car over. No one will pass you. Everyone stops for two minutes. And they reflect for two minutes. On those who died fighting for freedom. That’s significant.”
“And in those two minutes I wasn’t reflecting on those who died for freedom here in Israel. Maybe I should have, but I didn’t. I was reflecting on us. I was reflecting on America. Would America pull their car over for two minutes. Would all commerce stop for two minutes. Would people in the malls stop for two minutes. Would everyone stop for two minutes.”
“I thought I could relate to a group of people feeling alone in the Middle East, but until last night I was standing at the Temple Mount there by the Western Wall and I was listening to this jubilant celebration of people praying and celebrating, praying and praising that they had freedom. A man and his son walked up to me and he shook my hand and he smiled and he said, God bless you. And I said God bless you, sir. And he said, I wanted to thank you for what you say and what you do. And I said, not a problem, sir. And he said, we’re very alone here. Thank you. I couldn’t speak,” Glenn explained.
“I see a difference in the Middle East and from the Israelis. And that is… the same kind of thing that I’m sensing quite honestly from big members of faith that have very little in common when it comes to theology and that is, connect. We have got to connect.”
“ I can tell you what’s coming over the horizon, and trouble, trouble is coming over the horizon. Old hatreds are coming over the horizon and they are going to make sense to you when they do. And I’m telling you now it’s a well laid plan.”
Glenn explained that there are problems across the globe, and he feels that eventually people will be looking for someone to blame. In the past, that has traditionally been the Jewish people.
Glenn used the example of high gas process to make his point. He said that there will be a time when gas prices are $10, and someone will make the argument that its somehow Israel’s fault and their unwillingness to divide up their country. It will be their fault for not giving up land to the Palestinians or their fault for perpetuating conflict by not giving up Jerusalem.
“When that happens and someone comes to you and says, it’s the Jews, it’s Israel, if they would just give up Jerusalem, if they would just divide Jerusalem, it is coming.”
Glenn said that at some point someone will say it’s “their fault”, whether it be the Jewish people or another persecuted group. And you will have to make a choice between giving up a people, like the Jewish people, for security or cheaper gas or some other thing not yet known – or you choose to make a stand.
“I bring you this message from Israel. They are grateful that they have freedom. They recognize the people that gave them their freedom. Their arms are reaching out. Is there anyone there to answer the call? Will anyone stand with Israel?”
