BROOKING NO OPPOSITION...

>> SUNDAY, JULY 17, 2011

Is she a woman more spinned against than sinning? The BBC certainly has no interest in finding out. But why?
"News International, parent company of the best-selling Sunday tabloid said that its chief executive Rebekah Brooks had her own voicemail hacked while she was editor of sister newspaper The Sun. "News International can confirm that Rebekah Brooks was recently shown documents by the police that proved she was a victim of illegal voicemail interception," the British newspaper arm of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp media empire said. News International said the documents related to a period around 2005 when Brooks, the first female editor of the Sun, was married to actor Ross Kemp, who was famous for playing Grant Mitchell in the long-running BBC soap EastEnders.'
A fact that is fairly relevant in the context and yet I certainly haven't heard anything mentioned about it on any discussion about hacking on BBC radio. The story is buried in a BBC article about Ryan Giggs suing NOTW ..why would she allow herself to be 'hacked' if she knew the NoW private investigator was doing such things, especially at a time when she was in the headlines herself. It might suggest she didn't know about 'hacking'...a suggestion the anti Murdoch BBC might not want to propagate. But, of course, were that true, it would be evidence of systemic BBC bias which we all know does not exist since impartiality is in their DNA.

KING MIDAS IN REVERSE REVISITED...

Wasn't it an unwelcome surprise to see Gordon Brown return to the BBC after some of us had hoped that the electorate had driven a stake through his heart that would see him banished in perpetuity ? A Biased BBC reader informs
"For two days the BBC treated us to Gordon Brown's rants about the Sun reporting his son's illness...reported as if every word revealed a sacred truth distilled from the great mind of this economic genius, the moral titan that bestrides British politics, a fallen hero cruelly treated by a world that he saved from economic ruin.
Except that most commentators believed not only was the angry Brown wrong in his assertions but that his intervention destroyed a developing bipartisan relationship across the parties to deal with the developing media crisis. Finally today someone managed to slip in an off message note of outrage at his hijacking of the occasion. Anna Soubry, a Conservative, talking here on 'Week in Westminster' stated that many people in the Commons were extremely angry over Brown's rant and that it was a setback to the cross party atmosphere developing. She addes that Brown's speech was merely the settling of old scores, a rewriting of history and a very, very dark moment. Strangely the BBC didn't seem to pick that up at all. I wonder why?

THE KANGAROO COURT NO ONE CAN CHALLENGE...

Andy Coulson may have authorised payments to police officers or the hacking of phones but he has not been charged or convicted yet....except in the BBC's kangaroo court where verdict and sentence have already been pronounced and Cameron castigated for bad judgement by the BBC. The same BBC that, as has been noted before, has quite happily employed Alistair Campbell. The same BBC that we can see now trying to re-establish Labour's jacqui Smith in the public's consciousness as an uporight and respectable person. The same Jacqui Smith that defrauded the public taxpayer of £116,000. Whilst many of her fellow MPs are now residing in jail she roams free in the corridors of the BBC....once again receiving fat cheques paid for by public generosity. She was given a platform to talk about pornography, she has been a regular on the sofa with Michael Portillo on the political programme 'This Week' and today appears on 'Saturday Live' to talk about her inheritance tracks. Hopefully no one will inherit her house (which ever one she decides is her main residence) as it must surely belong to the state now.

BEHIND THE VEIL

BBC coverage of Islam is done with such sensitivity, such consideration, one could almost be forgiven for thinking that the BBC is horrifically dhimmified. A Biased BBC reader notes; "BBC only show programmes that are sensitive to Muslim sensibilites......they must be horrifed that Islamically 'insensitive' programmes are being beamed into the heart of the Muslim world....by Muslim, Middle Eastern channels....sense the outrage.

An article in the Times today (Saturday) reveals that Writer and producer of a 30 episode TV programme,Halla Diyab, has fled to Britain after being persecuted for speaking out against the Burkha.....why hasn't Woman's Hour leapt on this human interest story? The TV programme is called 'Your Rightful Disposal'...after a verse in the Koran that talks of enslavement of women. It has won two awards in the Middle East. It tackles subjects such as homosexuality, sexual and physical abuse, the burkha, virginity and extremism...surely all fertile BBC ground? The central character is a woman who moves to France from the Middle East and shows us the liberation she experienced when she removed her burkha. Ahh...that's why the BBC are not interested. keep 'em covered girls. It's your culture. 'Religious scholars want to silence women' she tells us. But it's not about religion....it's sectarian or culture or tribal or....whatever, just not Islam. Let's move on! Ask the BBC who Halla Diyab is....'Sorry, there are no results for your search.'
Who'd a' thunk?"

ON A SUNDAY...

BBC jihad against Murdoch continues in full voice this morning. "Sunday Morning" with sultry pouting Suzanne Reid posits "Is Rupert Murdoch's empire responsible for corrupting Britain?. That followed Andrew Marr's love in with Yvette Cooper as Murdoch was further demonised, along with the Police. And if you still haven't got enough, Panorama has a one hour special coming tomorrow night on the fall of Murdoch. (Were Murdoch dead they would now be insisting his corpse was dug up and hung from the tree in the ecologically sound Blue Peter garden.) To answer the first question, if Britain has become corrupted it is because of the massive sustained broadcasting power of the BBC and decades of propagating a world where all morality is relative, where there is no right or wrong, where Christian values are to be mocked and and where leftist values of anything goes prevails uber alles.

AGENDA DRIVEN

>> SATURDAY, JULY 16, 2011

Further to David Preiser's post about the BBC's use of an apocryphal quote in a far from subtle article on media barons, here's one of the co-authors of that piece on Twitter yesterday: Last week the BBC ran another De Castella article in which he attacked the News of the World for daring to quote Orwell's Decline of the English Murderin its final edition. And they have the nerve to call others "agenda driven".

SINGING FROM THE WRONG HYMN SHEET

Hat tip to Millie Tant in the comments for drawing our attention to Jenni Murray's interview with mezzo-soprano Christine Rice on Thursday's Woman's Hour. At one point Dame Jenni asked Rice about her pre-singing career researching "global warming", and I don't think the response was quite what was expected. The singer recounted her disillusionment with the field of climate change studies, which she described as "the buzz subject… with a lot of money":

I was amazed really by the inadequacy of what we had, because we're talking about climate change which is over tens of thousands of years as opposed to the twenty years of data that we had. So in a way we were putting out a lot of ideas and not really having concrete scientific research to support it, and I suppose at that point I did lose a little bit of my spark, thinking well I could propose an idea and I could probably draft a thesis that would support it and yet I wouldn't really convince myself necessarily.
At this point Murray changed the subject. It would be fascinating to know how many other people have turned their backs on a career in science because they didn't want to play the climate change game. The wilful lack of curiosity displayed by Murray suggests it's not the sort of investigation that would interest the BBC though.

SOLUTION TO FUEL POVERTY? VOTE LABOUR.

The BBC is determined not to let facts get in the way of a good story. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b012fs6k A B-BBC reader writes; 'You and yours' Winfred Robinson talks to energy minister Greg Barker. Robinson is asking what Baker is going to do about fuel poverty in UK. Baker states that Labour did nothing to help those in fuel poverty and that the poverty has doubled since 2005. Robinson says 'it is absurd to blame Labour...it was fuel prices that caused the poverty....so let's move on!' And yet she is here asking Baker what he is going to do about it.....surely she told us it is fuel prices that are causing the poverty...didn't she just say that...and out of government control obviously? So let's move on. Barker suggests we insulate and build to a better standard...UK has the most expensive to heat homes in Europe....we must build homes as insulated as the Norwegians who have very low energy bills...even in the Arctic... Robinson leaps in again....'that's why their homes are so efficient because their climate is so different(er....cold)...ours is temperate.' So an arctic region, cold to freezing most of the year, is cheaper to keep warm than a region where most of the year it is reasonably warm anyway? Clearly like a car it is more fuel efficient to keep a car running than to turn the engine on and off...keep your boiler running all year....the more you run it the lower your bills! That's BBC education for you. More is less. The BBC logic defeats me....obviously the real solution to fuel poverty is vote Labour! Why she just doesn't say that at the beginning and save me listening for an hour....."

THE 2 MINUTE HATE

It really IS unbelievable. I refer to the 24/7 hate shown by the BBC towards Murdoch. For those with a strong stomach why not give this a listen? Obviously John Humphyrs would like to see James Murdoch follow Rebekah Brooks and Les Hinton. Further, it is also evident the BBC would like to see Murdoch disinvest of his entire UK print operation. I then turned on BBC1 and who was being interviewed on the topic but John "Mr Ethics" Prescott. Naturally he was in full cry for more NI blood. On Radio, on TV and in-print, the BBC/Guardian media complex will not be satisfied with anything less than the destruction of TI and I sense Murdoch realises the gravity of the situation hence the exodus of senior executives. It's curious how disinterested the BBC is in allegations that OTHER newspapers have engaged in identical practices, almost as if the narrative is set in stone and not open to examination. People talk about the "fear" politicians and others have of Murdoch. I suggest that is as NOTHING compared to the fear they have of the State Broadcaster.

IRONY ALERT

Screengrab from the BBC's US & Canada page: Pretty rich, huh? Here's the report by Tom Brook. How very different to the BBC's treatment of the Obama documentary We The People which even the Obama-friendly Washington Post described as a "stultifyingly naive, please-drink-a-little-more-Kool-Aid paean" and "a very long commercial for Obama". The BBC didn't assign a journalist to cast a critical eye over that film, chosing instead to broadcast it as part of its teenage fan-club Obama season on the first anniversary of his, like, totally awesome victory. Agenda driven indeed.
