DEBKAfile Exclusive Report July 2, 2011,

The 350 activists left of the 1,500 activists originally planning to sail nine boats against Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza – among them Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal’s son-in-law Hamoud Tareq – never imagined their expedition would be stopped in Greece and Turkey even before they set sail. They certainly did not mean to have their Freedom Flotilla II served up as the founding step of the nascent pro-US Israel-Greek-Turkish alliance. Indeed, one of its organizers’ objectives had been to sabotage the tight strategic ties between Israel and Greece.

The organizers discovered their mistake Friday, July 1, when fast Greek coastguard commando boats escorted the American “Audacity of Hope” back to port and Athens said it will stop all other vessels departing for Gaza – even if they are Greek-owned.

So how come that Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou and his security agencies found time to deal with...

Obama Embraces Muslim Brotherhood

By Frank j. gaffney, jr., Centre for Security Policy

The Obama administration chose the eve of the holiday marking our Nation’s birth to acknowledge publicly behavior in which it has long been stealthily engaged to the United States’ extreme detriment: Its officials now admit that they are embracing the Muslim Brotherhood (MB or Ikhwan in Arabic). That would be the same international Islamist organization that has the destruction of the United States, Israel and all other parts of the Free World as its explicit objective.

On Thursday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tried to downplay the momentousness of this major policy shift by portraying it during a stopover in Budapest as follows: “The Obama administration is continuing the approach of limited contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood that have existed on and off for about five or six years.” In fact, as former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy points out in a characteristically brilliant, and scathing,...

Unmasking the ‘international community’

By CAROLINE B. GLICK, JPOST

While emptily mouthing slogans of tolerance, adherents to the rule of the “international community” embrace the agenda of the most violent, intolerant, totalitarian forces in the world.

For many years, the Left in Israel and throughout the world has upheld the so-called “international community” as the arbiter of all things. From Israel’s right to exist to climate change, from American world leadership to genetically modified crops, the Left has maintained that the “international community” is the only body qualified to judge the truth, lawfulness, goodness and justice of all things.

Most of those who uphold this view see the United Nations as the embodiment of the “international community.”

US President Barack Obama has repeatedly made clear that his chief litmus test for the viability or desirability of a foreign policy is the support it garners in UN institutions.

Obama is so averse to acting against the will of the UN that he...

Questioning Israel’s defence expenditures

Mammoth defense spending

Israel Uncensured News

The Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics has just published defense-spending data going back to 1955. Oddly, spending has always peaked after wars, not before them.

The current spending of the Defense Ministry and military-related civilian ministries is estimated at $17 billion, but is closer to $20 billion if we include the numerous secret programs. By comparison, the gigantic Russian army cost less than twice as much.

$20 billion could buy Israel a very powerful army. At least, we would have no shortage of funds for high-end military purchases. Instead, we beg the US for $200 million in aid for our missile interceptors. The problem lies in Israel’s insistence on maintaining a three-year term of compulsory military service, which is completely unnecessary in the current situation, instead of building a small but highly capable force. Compared with our Arab enemies, Israeli sustaining power is negligible. We cannot wage a protracted...

Ami Isseroff z”l will be missed

This eulogy was published by Fresno Zionism, a right wing blog. I share the author’s sentiments. I had great respect for Ami and often published his aritcles here. He never tired in his support for Zionism. As this eulogy attests, he was instrumental in getting me to change my slogan to “There is No Diplomatic Solution”. I liked the change. Ami did not. Ami Isseroff

Ami Isseroff, z"lAmi Isseroff, z”l

Ami Isseroff died this week. A remarkable intellect, Ami was uncompromising both in his Zionism and, believe it or not, his socialism. “I’m opposed to occupation, a member of the ‘peace camp’ and always will be,” he told me. But despite this, he well understood the nature of the Arab leadership and had no illusions about what would result from precipitous concessions. He kept his Zionist compass intact when many of his left-wing friends were losing theirs. Ami proved that it’s possible to be a left-wing Zionist today.

Naturally he took vicious hits from...

Americans United With Israel

By Ted Belman

How two people can make a difference

Two weeks ago I was contacted by Cathie Rogers, a long time friend and supporter of Israel who lives in Georgia. We have known each other for a number of years. Cathie said she and her friend Kaylene Rudy wanted to organize a rally in support of Israel in Atlanta that would be secular in nature. She wanted to demonstrate the love of Israel by Americans of all stripes. She asked me to help by writing a letter to Ophir Aviran, the Israeli Consul Genereral in Atlanta, to solicit his support which I gladly did.

Cathie is a dynamo. She says when she goes into anything, she goes big or doesn’t go at all. And big she went.

Check out the big event she and Kaylene have created. We are both hopeful that this will be a start of a trend in America and that such a conference will be repeated in many states throughout the USA.
