The European Union and the international bureaucratic class are deadweights around the UK; they are suffocating inventiveness, economic growth and snuffing out prosperity. This Bruges Group meeting has two informative speakers who will discuss; Excessive Governance and the Suffocation of Britain.
The author and academic Professor Kenneth Minogue will speak at this meeting alongside Philip Davies MP who is known for his robust defence of the national interest.

Kenneth Minogue
Professor Kenneth R. Minogue is Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the London School of Economics, and is currently Senior Research Fellow with the Social Affairs Unit in London. Professor Minogue has been a regular columnist for The Times and The Times Higher Education Supplement and reviews in both intellectual and academic journals. He is also the of the Bruges Group paper, The Fate of Britain’s National Interest.

A frequent commentator for radio and television on European Community issues, he was Chairman of the Bruges Group 1991-1993; he remains a member of the Group’s Academic Advisory Council.

Kenneth’s talk is titled; From Government to Governance: How Elite Monomania is Suffocating Britain.

Philip Davies MP
Philip Davies is the Member of Parliament for Shipley. Issues that Philip feels particularly strongly about are maintaining law and order, tackling asylum and immigration problems, protecting the countryside (particularly from over-development) and ensuring pensioners get a better deal.

In October 2005 he became the first Conservative MP of the modern-era to openly state that Britain should withdraw from the EU. Philip is also the Parliamentary Spokesman for the Campaign Against Political Correctness. Philip Davies is also a member of the Better Off Out group of MPs.
