Wed. 10 Aug. 2011 @ 11.33 - Independent states it will 'no longer be taking blogs' from anti-Israel activist Jody McIntyre following his support for London riots. Jody McIntyre, a pro-Palestinian activist who has argued that Israel doesn't have a right to exist due to it being a 'racist, apartheid state' has been fired from his regular blog column at The Independent after endorsing the London riots. McIntyre, who has spoken regularly at Palestine Solidarity Campaign events, dedicated the majority of his blog pieces for The Independent to criticism of Israel. Just Journalism noted last month a blog piece which blamed the massacre committed by Andres Behring Breivik in Norway on 'Zionism'. Following the announcement in April of the Hamas-Fatah unity deal, Just Journalism has covered the questionable progress made on the ground. While the initial announcement was heralded by some of the British media, the subsequent breakdown has been largely underreported. The BBC's Gaza correspondent, Jon Donnison, addressed the issue in an authored article on the BBC News Website on Friday. While 'Hamas-Fatah talks: Is Palestinian unity an illusion?' gave an in-depth account of the fact that '[o]n the ground, there is little difference', it shied away from fully explaining the different approach between the two groups to Israel. The article opened by describing how the rival groups remained physically divided between the two Palestinian territories: 'The Islamist movement Hamas remains in power in Gaza. Its secular rival Fatah runs the West Bank.' Islamist organization announces formation of armed committees to settle tribal disputes by force in lawless Sinai, suggests possible unification with Gaza. The Egyptian daily Al Masry Al Youm reported yesterday that the Salafi Group in North Sinai has begun to establish tribunals in Rafah, Sheikh Zewayed and Arish with the authority to implement rulings 'by force if necessary': '"We will deploy some 6000 of our youths to implement verdicts by armed force in the absence of the government," said group co-founder Suleiman Abu Ayoub. "They will be called off as soon as the police are able to resume their role."' Mon. 8 Aug. 2011 @ 18.49 - Independent journalist focuses coverage of Israeli demonstrations for economic reforms on Palestinian rights, citing blog posted on anti-Israel site Mondoweiss. The demonstrations calling for wide-ranging economic reforms and 'social justice' which saw around 300,000 Israelis take to the streets on Saturday in demonstrations receives coverage in all the British broadsheets today. The Guardian, The Times, The Daily Telegraph and the Financial Times all note the protest organisers' eagerness that the movement remains inclusive and positioned outside of political camps. The Guardian reports that around 90 per cent of the public endorse the protests, with support coming from the 'left and right, secular and religious, Jews and Arabs'.August 10, 2011 The Wire Anti-Israel blogger fired for endorsing London violence
