On August 17, 2011, a member of the jihadi forum Shumoukh Al-Islam using the handle "'Omar Al-Basrawi" ('Omar from Basra, Iraq) posted a message calling on American Muslims to assassinate late night talk show host David Letterman. Al-Basrawi has over 1200 participations on Shumoukh. The post, titled "To the Muslims in America – Isn't There a Sayyid Nosair among You to Chop Off the Tongue of this Hateful Jew?" read: "I have seen with my eyes and heard with my ears one of the scum of the Jews, one of their pigs, mocking the leaders of the mujahideen. It is the hateful David Letterman, an American Zionist, who hosts a comedy show called 'The Late Show with David Letterman.'" Special Dispatch No. 4090—Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor On August 16, the Gazan jihad group Jama'at Al-Tawhid Wal-Jihad issued a 47-minute video titled "The Path of Honor versus the Path of Shame," in which it attacked Fatah for its alliance with Israel, but especially Hamas, for not implementing the shari'a in Gaza. One innovation in this film lies in juxtaposing footage of Hamas's present leadership with video and audio recordings of the movement's past leaders – thus letting the leaders of the past "indict" those of the present. Another new feature is appealing directly to the members of Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, and putting them on the spot for tolerating the cease-fire with Israel and the non-implementation of the shari'a. On August 17, 2011, the Salafi-jihadi website Minbar Al-Tawhid Wal-Jihad published a fatwa issued by prominent Salafi-jihadi cleric Abu Mundhir Al-Shinqiti ("The Mauritanian"), encouraging Muslims living in European countries to actively participate in riots such as those that swept the U.K. earlier this month. Following are excerpts from the fatwa: The inquirer, calling himself Abu Hanifa, to whom the fatwa was issued in response, asks: "You have no doubt heard of the riots that are taking place in Britain, and those that occurred in France some years ago. There are those who have called on the Muslim youth to participate in these [riots] with the intention of [waging] jihad for the sake of Allah and harming the economies of these crusader states, which are participating in the conquest of Islamic countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan, and have been plundering the Muslims' resources since the age of colonialism. Is this permitted?" To read the full report, visit http://www.memrijttm.org/content/en/blog_personal.htm?id=5345¶m=JT.
