Treason From Within
A nation can survive its fools and even the

ambitious.

But it cannot survive treason from within.

An enemy at the gatesis less formidable for he is

known and carries his banner openly.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the

gate freely,

his  sly whispers rustling through all the alleys,

heard in the very halls of government itself.

For the traitor appears not a traitor;

he speaks in accents familiar to his victims,

and he wears their face and their arguments,

he appeals to the baseness that lies

deep in the hearts of all men.

He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and

unknown in the night to undermine the

pillars of the city,

he infects the body politic so that it can no longer

resist.

A murderer is less to fear.

The traitor is the plague."
Marcus Tullius Cicero

Like pulling the wings off flies, Witterings from Witney has a go at Hague's latest speech, and then pulls up his 1999 party conference speech.

I can't improve on WfW's tone – and won't even try, but I do need to remark, once again, on how the Tory politicians seem to have lost the plot. There always has been a disconnect, but lately it seems that the divide is growing exponentially.

We are going nowhere with this shower. There is not the slightest hope of any compromise. They are taking us for fools.

This is what he is telling us now.

Above this is what he was telling us then ... almost exactly four years ago.

In between lies a credibility gap so huge that the Grand Canyon pales into insignificance by comparison. But I really don't know which I find most offensive ... that he either thinks we are stupid enough to swallow his bullshit ... or he simply does not care what we think. However, if he thinks that all it needs is a few Myrtles to bring us into line, he is very much mistaken.

As Autonomous Mind so aptly informs us, the fantasy is over.
