Eat your heart out Brussels! How embarrassing! How frustrating! How delicious! Not a single EU banner (the ring of thorns) appeared anywhere at any venue featured in The Last Night of the Proms, and broadcast around the world by the BBC yesterday evening. If any organisation could have been relied on to find one amongst such a sea of faces, you can be sure the BBC would have found it. But no! To my certain knowledge, this is the first time in more than a decade the hated EU symbol has not been waved by someone somewhere in the vast crowds in Hyde Park, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales (sadly rained off last night) and – of course – the Albert Hall. Not one! Eat your heart out, Brussels. NOW you know just how low you have sunk in Britain. Even your dwindling band of supporters will no longer bear witness. Your disappearance put the icing on a wonderful Last Night cake – and made it better than ever! Given present events elsewhere, we look forward to your disappearing totally very soon.
