Abortion: Time to Press On

We believe that progress has been made this week in the long campaign to change our abortion laws. Although Parliament did not carry the amendment laid by Nadine Dorries MP to secure the offer of voluntary, independent counselling for women considering an abortion, the issue received incredible publicity and ‘independent counselling’ was debated for the first time in Parliament.

The conveyor-belt nature of the abortion industry has now been exposed, as well as the lack of counselling for women and the financial incentives involved for the abortion providers.

In addition, Health Minister Anne Milton announced that a full consultation would be held on the issue with the Government intending to address the current problems. We are also encouraged that 118 MPs (including three cabinet ministers) voted for the amendment.

We will be responding to the consultation. Please join us as we continue to campaign to change the nation’s abortion laws.

Action: Contact your MP here (in light of how they voted) and ask them to keep you informed about this important consultation.

Choose Life: Make Abortion History

The Choose Life campaign, run by Christian Concern, aims to mobilise a generation to make abortion history in this nation.

Please join us on Thursday 27th October 2011 for a special conference and a demonstration outside Parliament on the 44th anniversary of the passing of the Abortion Act, as we seek to find new ways to keep the spotlight on the destruction that abortion brings.

Send Postcard to Prime Minister

Four cases relating to Christian freedoms are to be heard shortly by the European Court of Human Rights. These include two CLC clients: Shirley Chaplin, the nurse who was asked to remove the cross she had worn since her confirmation; and Gary McFarlane, the counsellor who had a possible conscientious objection to providing sex therapy to homosexual couples.

The Prime Minister needs to make a statement on the cases to the European Court by 30th September.

Please contact the Prime Minister by sending him one of our postcards, which ask him to support the cases.

Please try and send your postcards by 22nd September (but postcards sent after this date will still be noted).

You can order free copies of our postcards from us which you can then distribute. Contact us by email (admin@christianconcern.com) or phone (020 7935 1488).
