An Islamist will probably take power in Tunisia next October, as reported here.
Turkey's "moderate Islamist" PM is aiming for Nasser-like status in his bid to be accepted as the champion of the Arab world against Israel, Turkey's former ally. Click here for the analysis.
Erdogan should remember that Nasser made a big mistake--that nearly cost him his country--when he unleashed a dynamic that he could not control. The Egyptian leader's terrifying, ever-escalating rhetoric--his threats to push the Jews into the sea--and warlike actions led to the Six-Day War. A disaster for Egypt. Who knows how Erdogan's anti-Israel adventure will end?
Islamizing Turkey signals that is preparing to fight Israel.

Turkey's Islamist prime minister escalates his anti-Israel rhetoric, as reported here, as he begins his menacing Arab Spring country tour.
Foreign Confidential™ readers should not be surprised by Erdogan's language. But bear in mind that the self-styled, neo-Ottoman savior is no dummy. The Turkish leader knows that in order to advance he must play to the Islamist street while being careful not to ruin his image in the West as a so-called moderate Islamist. Therefore, he is likely to escalate in stages--in words and deeds--ratcheting up the tensions with Turkey's former ally, the Jewish State, which secular Turkey recognized in 1949, and now, under Islamist rule, publicly brands "an ungrateful burden." (The term eerily echoes the "ungrateful ally" accusation leveled against Israel by Obama's former defense chief, the Bush administration holdover Robert Gates, before his retirement.)
The Obama Administration, which has hailed Turkey as a "model Islamic democracy," is supporting Turkey's rise, viewing it as a counterweight to Iran. Turkey is a full NATO member that has agreed to host a key component of the alliance's anti-missile warning system.
Britain, just weeks before betraying Libya's leader, encouraged his regime to purchase sniper rifles and machine guns from British manufacturers, as reported here.
