All About Oil?

Ten years ago this coming Sunday, on September 11, 2001, Islamist terrorists belonging to an organization that was aided and supported by the governments of Afghanistan, Pakistan--and Iran--and powerful elements in--if not actual government factions of--Saudi Arabia, staged a Pearl Harbor-style sneak attack on New York City, destroying the iconic twin towers of the World Trade Center. They also attacked the Pentagon building in Washington, DC and tried to attack another target in the capital.
All told, the Islamists of Al Qaeda killed approximately 3,000 people on the day that has become known to the world as 9/11.
The American people expected an immediate, World War II- or III-style response to the new Pearl Harbor.
Instead, their President, George W. Bush, gave them a never-ending "War on Terror" ... and an unnecessary Iraq war that was based on a mountain of lies and half-truths.
Why?
Why didn't the United States use any and all arms necessary, including tactical nuclear weapons, to obliterate Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan? Why didn't the U.S. end the Iranian regime--destroy its ability to wage war and sponsor terrorism abroad?
Why didn't the U.S. wipe out Pakistan's nuclear facilities?
Why didn't the U.S. grab the rulers of Saudi Arabia by their throats, put an end to their double game, and dictate the new price of oil for once and all?
Why didn't the U.S. give Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia green lights to crush their Islamist revolutionaries?
Why didn't the U.S. give Israel the green light to wipe out Hamas and Hezbollah?
The answer to the above questions, according to many observers, can be summed up in a word: oil.
Click here for an essay that makes the case that the deliberately deceptively named War on Terror was "all about oil."
This reporter disagrees, preferring a two-word answer: oil and power.
Regardless of who is right, this much seems clear: Barack Hussein Obama is merely the leftish, Third World-ish, Muslim-ish implementor of a policy of covertly and overtly supporting rightwing political Islam and overlapping state and organized Islam that dates back to the 1950s and Eisenhower's embrace of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Islam as both a bulwark and a sword ... a force to be manipulated and exploited ... nothing much has really changed, despite the horrific blowback of 9/11.
