Heather Wheeler becomes tenth Tory MP to publicly support leaving the EU

Yesterday we published a ConservativeHome poll that found that the ideal scenario for 60% of Tory members is that Britain leaves the EU. Only ten Tory MPs have publicly said the same, however, and the most recent to do so is South Derbyshire's Heather Wheeler.

The other nine are:
  1. Screen shot 2011-09-11 at 12.37.43 Peter Bone (Wellingborough)
  2. Douglas Carswell (Clacton)
  3. Phillip Davies (Shipley)
  4. Richard Drax (South Dorset)
  5. Gordon Henderson (Sittingbourne & Sheppey)
  6. Phillip Hollobone (Kettering)
  7. David Nuttall (Bury North)
  8. Andrew Percy (Brigg & Goole)
  9. Laurence Robertson (Tewkesbury).

Well done, Heather Wheeler - now we need many, many more.

Having realised at the time of Maastricht that the EU intended to make working hard a criminal offence and would inevitably bring the Continent to its knees - as it is now doing - and spent many thousands of hours studying the subject and attending meetings, I have no doubt whatever that (a) we must leave and (b) we will leave. Not just for economic reasons, overwhelming though they are, not just because if we stay we will end up like Greece is now - broke and under total EU control - but for reasons of democracy, liberty and independence.

All that remains uncertain is whether the one-way and relentless tide of public opinion wil force Cameron or his successors of whatever party to bend to the will of the people and take us out before the disintegration of the euro, by common consent increasingly likely and imminent, blows the entire EU apart, making a referendum and decision to leave irrelevant.

My view is that the odds are very much on the latter, as the evidence mounts on a daily basis that those pretending to be in charge have no solutions to the problems of the euro - how could they, when there are none? - and those suffering its consequences are simply not prepared to become in effect colonies of the EU, ruled in every detail of their lives - including being condemned to permanent poverty - by people they did not elect nor would if they had the chance.

I have waited nearly 20 years for this bust-up and whatever the short-term pain of re-adjustment, look forward to VE2 day with marching bands, parades down the Mall and street parties across the country.

Other than undemocratic laws and directives there are no benefits of membership for the UK.
It costs us £13.5 billion net per year for the benefit of foreign infrastruture and roads.
£40 billion trade DEFICIT last year and £262 billion net over the last 10 years.
70% of our laws are made here costing us £9 billion to administer annually.
An entire fishing industry lost (400.000).
No control of immigration on our borders.
Increasing welfare contributions (EU residents)for those who have never paid.
Increased food costs through the unreformed CAP.
No reform of the EU HCR that over rules our courts in favour of criminals every week.
Please read this Mr Cameron and you'll gain an understanding why you should give us back our democracy and our in/out referendum!!
