Sigma TV, a Greek Cypriot channel, claims that Turkish and Israeli
fighter jets came within combat range of each other while flying in the
vicinity of the new Greek Cypriot drilling platform. The Israelis said
they had no military presence in the area.

In fact, Israel was already keeping the region under surveillance with
its drones. Turkey has concluded a continental shelf agreement with
North Cyprus to retaliate against Greek Cypriot drilling.

Meanwhile, the there is talk of deploying eight frigates in the region,
apparently in addition to the three already assigned to patrol duties.
Turkish jets have been rekitted with new IFF equipment which, unlike the
original American software, identifies Greek and Israeli jets as enemy
forces. A car bomb in Ankara has killed three and prompted air raids
against PKK strongholds. PKK violence in Turkey's southeast is climbing
sharply with almost daily reports of terrorist attacks now.
In case of war, Turkey, the Turkish Cypriots and the Palestinians will
be pitted against Israel, Greece, the Greek Cypriots and the PKK. It is
possible that Egypt and Iran join the war on our side. Iran is already
