AQIM: Deployment of NATO Forces on Libyan Soil 'Will Burn Up the Remnants Of [Their] Armies' and 'Strike the Final Death Blow To [The U.S.] Economy

aqim small.jpg

The jihadi forum Shumoukh Al-Islam posted an audio message from Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) emir Sheikh Abu Mus'ab 'Abd Al-Wadoud, dated September 4, 2011 and titled "Blessings on the Victory of the Descendants of 'Omar Al-Mukhtar [i.e. the Libyans]." The 12-minute clip was produced by AQIM's media company, Al-Andalus.

In the message, 'Abd Al-Wadoud calls on the Libyans not to accept "imported, defective solutions" or anything less than implementing shari'a as the sole source of authority for legislation, and to disregard the dictates of the U.S., NATO, and some of the Arab states "that are aimed at derailing the uprising from its true goals and sowing schism in the Libyan and Muslim world." He says that unlike Algeria's regime of corrupt generals, which supports Libyan ruler Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi, the Algerian people support the Libyan uprising and are waiting for a chance to emulate it. He concludes by warning NATO forces against even considering setting foot on Libyan soil, saying that if they do, the remnants of their armies will be destroyed – which will, in turn, seal the fate of the faltering U.S. economy.

Al-Qaeda Leader 'Attiyat Allah Affirms Organization's Role in Arab Spring

In an article in the latest issue of Talae' Khurasan ("The Vanguard of Khurasan"), a journal published by Al-Qaeda's central leadership, Al-Qaeda leader 'Atiyyat Allah Abu 'Abd Al-Rahman presented what he called an interim balance of the revolutions in the Arab world. He made an effort to debunk notions that the revolutions sought to achieve democracy, that they were essentially nonviolent in nature, or that they had lost Al-Qaeda the support of the Arab world. In another article in the same issue, Al-Qaeda commander 'Abdallah Al-'Adam wrote that it was Al-Qaeda that had paved the way for the Arab spring by kindling the spirit of defiance and willing for self-sacrifice in the hearts of the Muslims.

Al-Qaeda Leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri's Wives Praised as 'Paragons of Glory' in Article on Shumoukh Al-Islam

On October 1, 2011, the jihadi website Shumoukh Al-Islam published an article titled "Paragons of Glory: Some Details from the Biographies of the Wives of Hakim Al-Ummah ['Sage of the Muslim Nation'] Ayman Al-Zawahiri," by Abu 'Abd Al-Qadir Al-Qimri, who is described as a historian and researcher of Islam. The article presents brief biographies of Al-Zawahiri's three wives. It focuses on his first wife and the mother of six of his children, Umm Muhammad, who was killed in 2001 in an airstrike along with her only son and her youngest daughter. Umm Muhammad is described as a pious woman who gave up a life of comfort to live as a mujahida among the fighters in Afghanistan. The article notes that her daughters also married mujahideen, two of whom have since been martyred.

The two other wives, Umm Khaled and Umm Tasnim, were widows of mujahideen; Umm Tasnim was in fact widowed twice before marrying Al-Zawahiri, and her sons were also killed on the battlefields of jihad. Umm Khaled is described as a role model for the wives of the mujahideen, and it is noted that she wrote a message to Muslim women, which was distributed by Al-Qaeda's media company Al-Sahab.
