Major Israel Union Begins General Strike

'The main Israeli labor union, Histadrut, has begun a general strike which is expected to shut airports, ports, banks and the stock market.

The walkout comes after the Histadrut labor federation and the finance ministry failed to reach an agreement over the conditions of contract workers. The Histadrut union had announced that the strike would begin at 6:00 a.m. local time (0400 GMT) on Monday, Reuters reported. The strike is also expected to affect public universities, hospitals, ministries and transportation services.'
