The Afghanistan branch of the global Islamist party Hizbut Tahrir has issued statements in Pashtu, Dari, and English condemning the desecration of the Koran by U.S. troops and calling upon the Afghan people to strive to establish an Islamic caliphate in Afghanistan.

The statement also criticized the Taliban for agreeing to hold peace talks with the U.S. and slammed the Afghan government for signing a strategic agreement with the United States.

It added: "HuT [Hizbut Tahrir] would like to ask the Muslim and mujahid nation of Afghanistan to strive and struggle for the re-establishment of the Islamic state (Khilafah) ... [to ensure the] protection of the sanctity of the Holy Koran, land, and resources of the Ummah. As the Prophet said, 'verily Imam [leader] is the shield behind whom the Ummah fights and protect herself.'"

Following is the text of the statement:

"On 20th Feb., 2012, the colonialist crusaders burnt the Koran Majeed along with some other Islamic books. Two Muslims embraced Shahada [martyrdom] while trying to prevent this evil and shameful act. Upon very strong reaction from Muslims, colonial invaders have apparently apologized and have ordered to investigate the matter to pacify the masses."

In a statement, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban's shadow government) has condemned U.S. troops for burning copies of the Koran in Afghanistan, and expressing shock that despite ten years of occupation, the Americans do not understand the cultural and religious sensibilities of Afghans.

Following is the text of the statement:

"As usual, once again the invader Americans committed an unpardonable barbaric felony, a crime which enraged the feelings of Afghans as well as of the whole Muslim world. This is approximately the tenth time that the American forces are repeating the despised action of insulting the Holy Koran and other religious books and later on call it erroneous.

"How is it possible that ... [despite a] ten-year occupation, they do not understand the culture and religious sanctities of Afghans or no awareness in this regard is given to them? Don't they understand that the Holy Koran is the message of the Sole Authority of the universe [i.e. god] and is a guidance book for mankind? Don't they know that they should deal with other religious books as they behave with their own?"

A spokesman of the Islamic Emirate (the Taliban's shadow government) has warned that the September 13, 2011 attack on the U.S. Embassy and NATO headquarters in Kabul was not the last such attack, and that in future they will be targeted as well.

In an interview, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi also avoided answering a question about Iran's role in providing the Taliban with improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and stated: "Yes, we acknowledge that we have made developments, with the grace of God, in the making of IEDs that have defeated the Americans and their allies, and we will further develop this, God willing."

Ahmadi, who reiterated the overarching message of jihad, also did not clearly state that the Taliban will not host Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan in the future, and merely stated that Al-Qaeda and other Islamic organizations have found new places, in the Arab countries which experienced recent popular uprisings.

On February 10, 2012, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan's (IMU) media company, Jundallah, released a new video featuring one of its German operatives, Munir Chouka, also known as Abu Adam Al-Almani. Earlier this month, the U.S. government designated Abu Adam a global terrorist under Executive Order 13224. In the video, 23 minutes in duration and dated December 2011, Abu Adam justifies attacks on Germany and promises that they are inevitable.

The following is a summary of the message:

Abu Adam begins by introducing his audience to the main theme of his message, namely that Germany is an ally of the U.S. and an enemy state.

Abu Adam discusses at length Germany's role in and commemoration of the Holocaust. Remembering a trip he took with his workplace to several memorial sites for Jews, noting that Germany is full of such sites, he recalls being told that less than 1% of Germans actively opposed Hitler's plans to exterminate the Jews. After Hitler's regime fell, he says, most Germans were awestruck and regretted the Holocaust, and even today, tax money goes to the Jews, not to mention toward erecting the Jewish memorials scattered throughout the country. He notes German human rights laws passed after the war, which he attributes to German guilt and pangs of conscience over the Holocaust, and which he says were hypocritical, as the Germans are actually a discriminatory people. Thus, they came to regret these laws once Islam began spreading among them.
