Isaiah 28 (December 5, 2000) Prof. Paul Eidelberg “Which of the likely prime ministerial candidates will you vote for in the forthcoming Israeli elections?” What an awful dilemma, seeing that all are tainted with inexpungible evil, having either shaken the hands of Yasser Arafat or having sat in his presence. Few understand what is at issue here. Few have plumbed Arafat’s significance vis-a-vis Israel. Do you know there is not a single Government minister or member of the Knesset that has the capacity to handle Arafat? All are children compared to this cunning and utterly ruthless Jew-hater. A word from Ion Pacepa’s book Red Horizons. After describing Arafat's love-making with his latest bodyguard, Pacepa, once head of Rumanian Intelligence under the Ceausescu regime, has this to say about the PLO Chairman: "I've never before seen so much cleverness, blood, and filth all together in one man." No Jew should have anything to do with this Jew-hating murderer, unless to eliminate him. You need to understand that Israel has been “negotiating" not merely with an enemy, but with evil incarnate. Consorting with Arafat dignifies evil, and this makes the issue a metaphysical issue of monumental proportions. Therefore, you have to understand that merely demonstrating against Israel’s various agreements with Arafat or exposing their suicidal consequences obscures the metaphysical significance of those agreements. The more Israeli politicians consort with Arafat, the more they corrupt Israel and bring it closer to the abyss. You simply cannot hobnob with this murderous villain without contaminating your soul; and if you are Israel’s prime minister you also contaminate your country. You cannot dignify that putrescence of evil without soiling yourself and degrading your people. Rabin, Peres, Netanyahu, Barak and their toadies have degraded Israel and are guilty of Hillul HaShem, of desecrating the Name of G-d. Know that those who signed or supported agreements with Arafat have betrayed the victims of that murderer and have themselves become accomplices to the subsequent murder of hundreds of Jewish men, women, and children. Four Israeli Prime Ministers surrendered their moral judgment to Arafat. By so doing they have condemned themselves to infamy. Again and again they saw Arafat exalt suicide bombers as “holy martyrs.” Again and again they heard him and his media incite Arabs to kill Jews. And they knew he ordered the shedding of Jewish blood. Yet they continued to arm him and his murderous cohorts – and even paid them while they killed our fathers and mothers, our brothers and sisters, our sons and daughters! There is no way in the world by which they can redeem themselves. And this is how we must understand the Olso covenant of death (brit et mavit), the covenant described in Isaiah 28:15, and which Targum Onkelos calls a “a covenant with terrorists” (mechablim). The hearts of those who persist in this pact with the devil have been hardened, just as was the heart of the Egyptian Pharoah. They cannot undo their collaboration with evil. You need to understand the extent of Israel’s defilement, how the Oslo covenant with Arafat taints almost every one. Rabbis who remained silent in the face of that covenant are complicit with evil. And so are those who voted for any party responsible for that covenant….! You need to understand, however, that Arafat is only a whip that God is using to purge Israel of its idolatries: the belief that a state run by mere politicians can give Israel security and dignity; the belief that the United States is Israel’s faithful ally; the belief that the IDF can defend Israel from its enemies; the belief that democracy can give Israel domestic tranquility; the belief that agreements with Arab despots can give Israel peace. The scourge of Oslo, described in Isaiah 28, is upon Israel, and not until it destroys this evil will Israel restore its soul and make peace with God. ****** Epilog (March 15, 2012) And thus it shall be as long as Israeli Prime Ministers consort with Arafat's successors. A Dead Man Walking and Talking Prof. Paul Eidelberg On 5 December 2003, in response to twin homicide bombing that occurred in Tel Aviv, Israeli Air Force combat helicopters attacked a weapons-producing workshop in Gaza. A wide variety of weapons were produced in the workshop, especially mortar bombs. The workshop was of course used by Arab terrorists. When I first read of this event, I asked: Why this diminutive reaction to Israel’s sworn enemies? The great warrior and Likud leader Ariel Sharon was then in uncontested power. I asked: How many weapons have the Gaza terrorists been able to accumulate because of the Government’s timid policy of self-restraint? How many Jews have been murdered because of the Government’s deliberaterefusal to pursue a policy of zero-tolerance for Arab terrorism? Why hasn’t the Government given the IDF clear-cut orders to sweep through Gaza as well as Judea and Samaria to disarm and destroy the entire PLO-Palestinian Arab leadership and terrorist network? Is the Government being led by idiots or madmen or just plain cowards? Sharon, of course, has since been incapacitated. He was—or once was—warrior, not an orator. Today, Israel's Prime Minister is an orator, not a warrior. This makes him a most dangerous PM. The reason is quite simple: Netanyahu derives his prestige from speech, not from deeds. Hence he is all the more inclined to speaking or negotiating with Israel’s implacable enemies, and this simple fact indicates that Israel’s mellifluous Prime Minister is a candidate for an insane asylum! What else can one say about a person so anxious to negotiate with Arabs who are not only compulsive liars, but who are utterly dedicated to your destruction and never cease arming for that purpose? And this they more avidly do when they behold an Israeli Prime Minister who has reduced statesmanship to talkmanship, and who also wants to remain the leader of a party compulsively committed to blabbering about peace. Of course, this compulsion incites the contempt of the Arabs, while encouraging them to accumulate deadlier weapons and develop a military infrastructure to facilitate the liquidation of the Jewish state. Given the irrational disposition of Israel’s loquacious PM, he is not amenable to rational argument. He’s a dead man walking and talking. I apologize to his admirers for disparaging this orator, and I admit that his predecessors were as insane as he is. In fact, there is a lot of evidence at hand to indicate that the dysfunctional state of Israel breeds leaders who can be described equally well as useful idiots or madmen. Have a pleasant day.
