The day before Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel observes Yom Hazikaron, its memorial day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror. No JTA writer had a better grasp on the price of freedom like columnist Philip S. Bernstein, a veteran and special advisor to the U.S. Army on Jewish matters after WWII.
