your speech at the Bruges Group

A message to Jacob Rees-Mogg MP

I think you already know how frustrated many of us were at your failure to follow through the consequences of the facts both you and Ruth Lea set out about the EU.

Much of the information and facts were well known to most of us, although I particularly appreciated your update on the work of the European Scrutiny Committee

But – and it’s a big BUT – why do you freely admit that the EU is corrupt, but want to wait until a consensus of parliamentary and public opinion would ensure success in a referendum on re-negotiation?  Even if you think  a referendum on leaving/staying is unwinnable why do you also think that – meanwhile - we just plough on!  Where is the courage and leadership in that?

I, and several others nearby, concluded that you appear not to understand the relevant history at all.  OK, admittedly in 1975 you were a young man.  You have no direct knowledge of what shaped our relationship with Europe from the 1930s to the 1960s.   So you have no real fear of more appeasement.  Nor did you mention the illegality of the EU under the British constitution.

I was astounded at your lack of any sense of urgency or outrage.  Since when do you "wait until the time is right" to open negotiations with invading tyrants?  We have been ruled for far too long by liars and thieves who think themselves above the law.  Worse, we KNOW they are not interested in doing what is best for the people of Europe.  Their agenda is fundamentally political and self-seeking.  Look no further than the euro is see the scale of the disastrous consequences so far.

They have done, and continue to do, immense damage to the UK.  It must stop – and soon!

A referendum on doing the best deal possible with the EU isn’t going to cut it.   Amongst other things, it assumes the EU has some sort of right to rule Britain – they don’t!

You have a good brain – please use it!
