Gitmo Censorship Challenges UK Secret Justice

'Reprieve, the legal charity supporting prisoners’ human rights, has warned the UK government of its secret justice plans, after discussions with one of the clients of the group at Guantanamo Bay were censored.

The charity's director Clive Stafford Smith made the comment after returning from his visit to the US to see his client Shaker Aamer, last British citizen imprisoned in the notorious American military’s Guantanamo camp in Cuba. "I asked him (Aamer) whether he was still being held in solitary confinement in Camp V, Echo Block, where he was transferred last year?” he said.'

UK Seeks Partners for its Military Adventurisms

'Phillip Hammond said during a visit to Berlin earlier this week that Germany should use its untapped military potential to “deliver firepower” to the West.

Hammond, who is overseeing massive defense cuts in Britain said Germany should leave its “historic reluctance” to engage in conflicts behind and adopt a military position proportionate to its economy.

“Because of the historic reluctance to engage and operate overseas, it is self-evident that there is still huge potential in the German defense structure to deliver more useful firepower to the alliance,” Hammond said.'

NATO Invites Russia to Join Missile System

'"Our missile defense system is not technically designed to threaten Russia in any way and we have provided that information to the Russians. Politically, we don't have any intention to attack Russia," Rasmussen said in Berlin on Friday after talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"The best way for the Russians to see with their own eyes that our system is not directed against them would be to cooperate actively," he added.

The NATO chief also stated that the US-led Western military alliance will continue its dialogue with Russia, saying NATO is still hopeful that it can reach a deal with Russia on the alliance's planned anti-missile shield.'
