The newspapers followed up Guido's scoop that everyone's favourite High Court judge had lost it over the Mail on Sunday's splash that he'd threatened to quit. Guido learned that Leveson had to be talked down from calling a special hearing, instead summoning core participants to make submissions on the story. Leveson later confirmed Guido's scoop by admitting that he had considered holding the hearing. Guido's next scoop was the revelation that Lord Ashcroft's bid to merge PoliticsHome, Dods, ePolitix with politics monitoring specialist DeHavilland has been referred to the Competition Commission by the Office of Fair Trading. Meanwhile the Telegraph upped their assault on Baroness Warsi's dodgy dinners, only for Guido to discover that they had covered up the fact that their own star columnist Peter Oborne had attended the same event as a guest. Over in sunnier climes Craig Oliver had the Lobby by the short and curlies after taking snaps of topless hacks sunning themselves by the pool in Mexico. Still waiting for you to send 'em over, Dre... Back home there was plenty to keep Labour HQ busy, kicking off with a stampede of staffers rushing for the exits following the announcement of 30 voluntary redundancies. Ed's men then descended further into factionalism as the Progress/GMB dispute threatened open civil war, while Tom Watson's choices for police commissioners were pipped to the post by Blairite candidates.
