Soldiers sacked days before pension date

To deny him a pension so close to qualifying is not only underhand, but undermines the ethos on which the Army supposedly prides itself.

To target the soldiers that will save the country the most money by their redundancy is the correct thing to do when one is working for the whole country and not looking at it from the narrow view of service men’s families.

Armed Forces must wait five years longer for pension

Soldiers, sailors and airmen may have to give as much as 23 years’ service before being able to leave with their pensions, up from as little as 18 years at present.

The result would be that the effective minimum age for leaving the Services with an immediate pension would increase from 40 to 45.

Which in the present economic circumstances is something that should be understood and accepted by all. WE are all having to work longer and pay more for pensions so there is no good reason why servicemen should be given special treatment.
