This Week's Worldview Weekend Articles:

The Fabian Window, Rick Warren, Tony Blair, and The Religious Trojan Horse

By Brannon Howse
The Fabian stained glass window was created and designed by George Bernard Shaw in 1910. The playwright designed and commissioned the window to exemplify Fabian beliefs. For many years, the window was not publicly displayed. It was stolen in 1978, and then in 2005 it reappeared at an auction of Sotheby’s. The next year, the Fabian window was unveiled in a ceremony at the London School of Economics. And who was there to deliver the keynote address for the unveiling? The Fabian socialist, former prime minister of Great Britain, Tony Blair.

The Harbinger--A Matter of Critical Discernment
T.A. McMahon of The Berean Call
The Harbinger is a novel that is becoming very popular among both Christians and non-Christians, even reaching the top of the New York Times best-seller list at this writing. What makes it worthy of review, like other books that we have addressed, is that it offers an important opportunity for believers to exercise critical discernment. In this case, author Jonathan Cahn believes that he has discovered prophetic signs from God that are found in the Old Testament and directly apply to the United States, referring in particular to the events surrounding the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Because The Harbinger (TH) is a fictional novel with a large dose of nonfiction added (Scripture), this critique involves two aspects: 1) a personal, subjective opinion, and 2) a more objective consideration of the author's application of Scripture in his novel.

Catholic Mysticism Infused into Society

By former Catholic Priest Richard Bennett
The strong influence of Catholic mysticism has helped immensely to transform the New Age movement from being merely a counterculture-subculture, to becoming embedded into ordinary society.  Catholic mysticism has very effectively and subtly invaded many facets of life without being recognized or critically examined.  This has been actively promoted through self-help medical, educational, and psychological programs that employ methods such as meditation, philosophical programming, and self-hypnotic contemplation.  In mixing Eastern subjective spirituality with Western self-assurance, Catholic mysticism has done much to influence the core spiritual beliefs and values of the West.  In the September 2005 issue of Newsweek, the feature article was called "Spirituality in America."

Re-Inventing the Church - Part 1

By Berit Kjos
A strange distortion of truth has spread like a grass fire on a windy day through churches around the world. It calls God's people not just to understand our changing times from the world's perspective, but to actually blow with the wind and help fuel the transformation. This Church Growth Movement (CGM) uses familiar old words to persuade the people, but it conforms God's Word as well as human thinking to politically correct views of unity, community, service and change.

Behavioral laboratories, schools, UNESCO and liberal churches all helped light that fire during the 20th century. Hidden from sight, their subversive efforts seared America's Biblical foundations and prepared the masses to believe a lie.

Some Unanswered Questions of the Mormon Gospel

By former Mormon Ed Decker
We are taught that the Book of Mormon is the "most correct book" and that it contains the truth, the Word of God and the fullness of the gospel (D& C 19 26, 20:9, D: 5, 42 12 ~ 136:3). Exactly where in the Book of Mormon are the following doctrines or concerts taught:

The May 2012 cover story of the magazine Christianity Today is about Heidi Baker. The subtitle of the article reads, “There are credible reports that Heidi Baker heals the deaf and raises the dead.” The article declares that “…she claims, scores have risen from the dead, food has been multiplied, the crippled and blind have been restored…” Any reason why we don’t have video documentation of this? The CT article states that “One night, she had a vision of Jesus in which she literally ate his flesh and drank his blood.” In addition the article states “Heidi speaks of ministry flowing from ‘your secret place’ in a love experience with Jesus so potent it verges on the erotic.” The article reports “Scholar McClymond describes Heidi as a ‘practical mystic, like Teresa of Avila.’” The CT article mentions the New Apostolic Reformation and tries not to connect Baker to the NAR but Brannon documents Baker’s work with many prominent NAR personalities as well as being a co-author of the book “Reformers Pledge” with the likes of Cindy Jacobs, C. Peter Wagner and others. In addition Brannon plays an audio clip dated May 22, 2012 in which Tim Wildmon of the American Family Association and AFR interviews Baker. Brannon points out that many groups are helping to bring false teaching mainstream whether they know it or not. Brannon also explains how Baker and NAR personalities along with Emergent Church leaders are taking part in a research project that boasts being funded by the John Templeton Foundation. Brannon explains why this is of particular interest as the New Agers, the Mystical Left, neo-evangelicals, and the New Religious Right merge.
