BANNER A&J
The Film to Watch this Sunday - Tisha B'Av

As Jeremy and I are travelling throughout the country, speaking to Israelis of all types from all backgrounds, the experience of sharing our ideas with our fellow Jews and feeling their overwhelming enthusiasm and support has far surpassed both of our expectations.

As I was driving to the Golan this past week, I found myself reflecting on the 9 days we find ourselves in, leading up to Tisha B'Av which starts immediately following this coming Shabbat. The destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, the exile of the Jewish People, and the myriad of other tragedies occurring on Tisha B'Av are truly overwhelming.

Then I began to reflect on the causes of these tragedies - Sinat Chinam - baseless hatred, spreading a negative and fearful report about Israel, and idolatry - placing our faith in something, anything, other than G-d.  At this point my mind shifted to the upcoming event we were hosting in the Golan and I shifted to contemplating our platforms - the core principles upon which we are campaigning.

I was shocked to see how many of our fundamental vision and goals for the future of Israel directly address, and seek to rectify, the national character flaws that laid the foundation for so many of the sorrows throughout Jewish History.   We will elaborate more on this in the weeks ahead.

This Tisha B'Av, as we commemorates the destruction of both the first and second Temple and other tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people, we are also reminded of the heart wrenching episode the State of Israel underwent seven years ago - the disengagement from Gaza. The 90 minute film, Unsettled, offers a personal behind-the-scenes look, both before and during the evacuation, at the people whose lives would forever be impacted by the events which unfolded during those difficult weeks. With the ramifications of the disengagement from Gaza still very evident today, this emotional documentary film takes you back to experience the event from the perspective of both the settler and the soldier.

While you can watch this film now or any other time, this would be perfect to watch this Sunday - on Tisha B'Av:
