Olympic Buffoonery – Not Saving the Planet

'Congratulations to the ‘brains’ from the Olympics organisers who were behind the decision to use three hydrogen fuelled taxis to ferry Olympic VIPs, and other assorted hangers on, to and around various Olympics venues.

The cabs, not unsurprisingly, can only be refuelled at service stations that offer hydrogen as a fuel. Aha! I think you might be able to guess where I am going with this.

Can you guess where the nearest service station that offers hydrogen as a fuel is children?

Yes, that’s right, it’s located at Swindon – which is (cough) a ‘mere’ 130 miles away from where the taxis are being used.'

Olympics Would Earn Billions, We Were Told. Some Hope!

'It took just 72 hours after the Olympics began for it to become clear that a calamitous error had been made and that London had turned into a ghost city.

The truth is that the much-trumpeted economic boost from the Olympics seems to be a mirage. How different the reality is from Tony Blair’s bombastic declaration in 2005 that this would be ‘a once-in-an-era opportunity for British tourism’.

In panic, Mr Johnson ordered the traffic warnings to be turned off and most of the Zil lanes to be opened to all traffic. But the damage had already been done. Boris and his Transport for London colleagues, though, are not solely responsible for this sabotage of Britain’s economic engine room. Despite the worst economic crisis for generations, cosseted Whitehall civil servants have been allowed to work from home for six weeks so the poor lambs don’t suffer any travel disruption during the Olympics.'

Black Dossier: HSBC & Terrorist Finance

'It's tough being the world's second largest bank.

HSBC, the London-based British multinational banking and financial services giant operates in 85 countries with 7,200 offices worldwide with assets totaling more than $2.6 trillion (£4.06tn).

They're also caught-up in serial scandals: the Libor interest rate-fixing scam, serious charges of drug money laundering as well as suspicions that bank officers "palled around" with terrorist financiers.

Founded in 1865 when the British Crown seized Hong Kong as a colony in the aftermath of the First Opium War, British merchants (today we'd call them drug lords) needed a bank to handle the brisk trade in the illicit substance and launched the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Company Limited. Rebranded "HSBC" in 1991, the bank expanded at breakneck speed in the heady days after The Wall fell.'

An Olympic-Sized Police State

'They haven't armed the traffic wardens with Uzis yet, but the way things are going, don't rule it out. Olympic preparations already in place include an aircraft carrier parked on the Thames, surveillance drones flittering in the skies and an 11-mile electrified fence around a "safe zone" reinforced with squads of special forces and 55 teams of attack dogs.

Add to this the ground-to-air missiles on the roofs of blocks of flats, sonic weapons that can disperse crowds by "spraying" head-splitting pain, Typhoon jets and Lynx helicopters revved up and ready for takeoff, teams of Marines on 24-hour standby and much else besides.

Beijing didn't have drones, or missiles, or a carrier afloat on the Yongding. Maybe China is that bit more relaxed and liberal than London these days--or just less in need of spooking its citizens into nervous surrender of basic rights.'

Nations Must Unite Against World's Hegemonic Zionism: Ahmadinejad

'“The Zionist regime (Israel) is both the symbol of Zionism in the world and a tool to reinforce the dominance of arrogant powers in the region and across the globe,” President Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with a group of ambassadors from Muslim countries to Tehran on Wednesday.

A glance at the present situation in the world, particularly in the Muslim and regional states such as Bahrain, Yemen, Libya, Syria and Turkey, shows that all nations are affected by the arrogant system’s plots, added the president, emphasizing that the existing form of global management has failed humanity and its principles.'

UK Union Wants Banks ‘Short-Circuited’

'Unite said the proposal would “short circuit” the current banks that are failing to provide the needed credits to businesses and entrepreneurs, indirectly damaging the economy by impeding employment and businesses’ development.

“The latest figures, revealing that July saw the worst manufacturing performance in more than three years show that the coalition’s cuts and austerity are not working,” Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said.'

Europe Elites Complicit in Banking Theft: Analyst

'An economic analyst says Europe is a catastrophe in the making as bankers and politicians hold the power of money creation for the benefit of themselves.

“They are the elite of bankers and the bribed, complacent politicians, aided by servile academics, who uphold the power of the banks because they think that it will increase their own. They are now nicely in control and are anxious to move things on,” Rodney Shakespeare, professor of Binary Economics, wrote in an article . He went on to say that the European elite believe “money creation must only be for the benefit of the banks” and not for the benefit of the population.'

Armed Resistance Vital to Lebanon Security: Nasrallah

'Speaking on the 67th anniversary of the Lebanese Army’s foundation late on Wednesday, Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah denounced attempts made by the US and Israel to disarm the Resistance.

The campaign to disarm Hezbollah started after the Israeli army was forced to leave Lebanon’s occupied south in 2000, Nasrallah stated. He recalled the victory of Hezbollah against Israel in the July 2006 war, and noted that the Resistance has long protected the Lebanese people.'

UK Officials Rake in Rewards for Failure

'The coalition government had vowed to clamp down on performance-related payouts, but Chancellor George Osborne’s department continued to hand out almost the same amount as the year before.

Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act show Treasury civil servants grabbed £970,064 in bonuses in the 12 months to April this year, down just £62,175 on the total of £1,032,239 previously paid over.

“The Chancellor rightly ordered a pay freeze to help cut the bloated public-sector wage bill, so it is incredible that he is undermining his own edict and handing out big bonuses at the Treasury”, said Matthew Sinclair, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance.'
