Broker's Drunken, Overnight Trades Sent Oil Price Soaring
Now it Can be Told: a Crude, Cautionary Tale
On June the 30th 2009 oil mysteriously jumped by more than $1.50 a barrel during the night, to reach its highest price in eight months, the kind of swing that is caused by a major geopolitical event.
The amazing, true cause of this price spike has now been released by a Financial Services Authority investigation (FSA).
Although not authorised to invest company cash in trades Steve Perkins, a long standing, senior broker at PVM Oil Futures, had managed to spend $520 million on oil futures contracts throughout the night.
On the morning of the 30th an admin clerk called Mr. Perkins to ask why he had bought 7 million barrels of crude during the night. Mr. Perkins had no recollection of the transactions, and it turned out that he had made the trades during a “drunken blackout.”
By the time PVM had realised the transactions had not been authorized by a client, they had incurred losses of $9,763,252.
Bought 69% of the Global Market
Between the hours of 1:22 AM and 3: 41 AM, Mr. Perkins gradually bought 69% of the global market, whilst driving prices up from $71.40 to $73.05, by bidding higher each time.
At 6.30 AM, presumably sobering up and realising what he’d done, he sent a message to his managing director claiming an unwell relative meant he would not be able to make it into work.
Following an official investigation Mr. Perkins admitted to having a drink problem, had his trading license revoked for five years, and was given a fine of £72,000.
The FSA have said that they will re-approve his license after the five year period, if he has recovered from his drink problem, although they warned that “Mr. Perkins poses an extreme risk to the market when drunk.”

AJC Asks EU to Add Hezbollah to Terror List
The global Jewish advocacy group AJC asked in a recent poll whether the European Union should add Hezbollah to its terrorist list.
The overwhelming response? Yes.
After decades of carrying out global terrorism that has claimed hundreds of victims--including a Bulgarian bus driver and the five Israeli tourists who lost their lives in the most recent attack on EU territory--Hezbollah is still free to raise funds and recruit new members throughout Europe.
AJC says, enough is enough! The organization is advocating strongly that Europe is morally obligated to strike a blow against international terrorism by adding Hezbollah to its terror list.

Appeasers and Quislings in the West will try to make something of the incident and similar arrests of people close to Ahmadinejad by the turban-topped monsters. In fact, the infighting is meaningless from Western and secular Iranian perspectives. The Iranian regime has its factions and internal conflicts and rivalries. But so did the Nazis. After HItler came to power, he wiped out the left wing of the Nazi party--the faction that took the "socialist" in National Socialist a little too seriously.
The mullohocracy must go. The civilized world cannot co-exist with a clerical fascist country that muses openly about "a world without America and Zionism."
Endnote: In fact, the mad mullahs should never have been allowed to take power in Iran in the first place. The world is still paying the price for the Carter administration's cowardly betrayal and abandonment of Iran's pro-Western, modernizing monarch, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and pathetic attempt to engage the Islamist revolutionaries and its evil Ayatollah--whom Carter believed to be a "man of faith" capable of compassion and spiritual feeling. (Not for nothing did Carter's UN envoy, Andy Young, predict that Khomeini would one day be hailed as "a saint.")
