Senior Yemeni Sheikh Urges Attacks On U.S. Marines In Yemen, Calling Them 'Invaders'![]()
Sheikh 'Abd Al-Majid Al-Zindani, a prominent Yemeni sheikh affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, called to attack the U.S. Marines in Yemen, whom he described as "invaders." It should be noted that, in 2004, the U.S. placed Al-Zindani on its list of wanted terrorists.
German Mujahid Urges Muslims In Germany To Kill And Behead Politicians, Fellow Citizens Who Approve Of Muhammad Cartoons![]()
A September 23, 2012 article published by the jihadi media outlet Global Islamic Media Front (GIMF) calls on Muslims living in Germany to launch a campaign of killings in revenge for the anti-Islamic film and for other offenses against Islam. The article, which was posted on jihadi forums, was authored by a German jihadi who goes by the nickname Abu Assad Al-Almani ("the German"). No information is given about the author, but he is called a "mujahid" and one gets the impression he is currently based in a jihad front, possibly in the Afghanistan-Pakistan area.
Jihadi Forum Members Post Threats Against UK Following Approval Of Abu Hamza Extradition![]()
Following the September 24, 2012 approval by the European court of human rights of the extradition of Abu Hamza Al-Masri and other detainees from the UK to the U.S., members of jihadi forums expressed rage and posted threats against the UK. A member who goes by the handle Karim Al-Maghrebi urged fellow members to incite Muslims to target British embassies, consulates and interests in Muslims countries and elsewhere.
AQIM Publishes Statement Addressing Families Of Its French Hostages![]()
On September 26, 2012, Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) published a statement in which it addressed the families of the French hostages the organization kidnapped some two years ago in Niger. The statement was initially reported on by the Mauritanian news website Sahara Media on September 19 (See MEMRI JTTM Report AQIM Threatens To Kill French Hostages If France Interferes In Northern Mali, September 20, 2012).
Jabhat Al-Nusra Claims Responsibility For Attack On Military Headquarters in Damascus![]()
In a communiqué dated September 27, 2012, the Syrian jihad group Jabhat Al-Nusra claimed responsibility for the September 26 bombing of the military headquarters in Damascus, and gave a detailed account of the attack. The following are excerpts from the communiqué, which was posted on the jihadi website Shumoukh Al-Islam: "On the morning of September 26, 2012, at approximately 07:00, the heroic mujahid Abu Muhannad Al-Shami drove his car to the [military] headquarters building in Damascus. He approached as close to the building as possible and then detonated the vehicle. The [explosion] caused extensive damage on that side, and the shockwave spread throughout the building, killing whoever it killed."
Senior Jihadi Sheikh: Joining Libyan Security Forces Is Permissible Only In Order To Take Control Of Them From Within Or Limit Influence Of Secularists In Them
On September 24, 2012, the jihadi website Minbar Al-Tawhid Wal-Jihad published a fatwa by a member of its Shari'a Committee, the prominent sheikh Abu Mundhir Al-Shinqiti. The fatwa states that joining the apparatuses of the Libyan interior or defense ministries (i.e., the Libyan security forces) is permissible only if the intention is to take them over from within or at least to minimize the influence of secularists in them. The fatwa states further that only people with expertise in the domain of security should join, that that they must have "an independent body which will enable them to reject any decision contravening the [Islamic] shari'a."
Katibat Ansar Al-Shari'a Deny Involvement In Attack On Consulate![]()
Following reports that it was involved in the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Katibat Ansar Al-Shari'a published a communiqué denying any connection to the attacks.
In Response To Anti-Islamic Film, Arab Hackers Attack Western Sites![]()
Alongside the wave of public protests, riots, and condemnations that have swept the Arab and Muslim world in response to the controversial anti-Muhammad film "Innocence of Muslims," there have also been cyber-attacks against Western websites by Arab hackers. Reports estimated that over 50 Western websites were targeted, including some U.S. government sites. Reports of other attacks, however, such as the September 18, 2012 attack against the Bank of America site.
