Yet more evidence in new TaxPayers' Alliance research out today that some government departments could do a lot more to get good value for your money. If they can make these easy savings, then that will help make room for the fairer, simpler and lower taxes that Britain needs and Parliament has been debating this week.

Some departments paying way over the odds

There are huge differences in the amounts that government departments are paying for the basics. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills paid the most for both paper and energy.

More calls for tax reform

In Parliament, Dominic Raab MP asked about the 2020 Tax Commission finding that "UK tax administration costs were double those of Norway, triple those of Estonia, and almost five times higher than in Switzerland". Meanwhile, Steve Baker MP urged the Government to pursue "radical tax simplification".

More pressure for lower fuel prices

Senior politicians call for CGT to be cut or abolished
