What I Miss About America (a book review)

by Eileen Toplansky, AMERICAN THINKER
Humor is often used to mask pain, to give hope, and to “momentarily extract ourselves from the misfortunes of existence.”  In order to understand the joke, irony or satire, it is necessary to put the situation in context.

Enter Stella Paul, author of the newly published gem of an e-book entitled What I Miss About America: Reflections from the Golden Age of Hope and Change.  Stella’s pithy sayings capture the angst of Americans who are angry and terrified at what President Barack Hussein Obama has wrought during his first term.

A writer for American Thinker and PJ Media, Stella Paul explains in her e-book’s introduction that “…ever since we entered the Golden Age of Hope and Change in 2009, it feels as if the bounce and sparkle have left town.  What’s moved in is fear and all its clammy cousins, like anxiety, panic, and dread.  We’re afraid of the future [and we're] in debt and going broke and everybody’s riled up and nervous.”

Romney’s text on today’s foreign policy speech

“I particularly appreciate the introduction from my good friend and tireless campaign companion, Gov. Bob McDonnell. He is showing what conservative leadership can do to build a stronger economy. Thank you also Congressman Goodlatte for joining us today. And particular thanks to Gen. Peay. I appreciate your invitation to be with you today at the Virginia Military Institute. It is a great privilege to be here at an Institution that has done so much for our nation, both in war and in peace.
For more than 170 years, VMI has done more than educate students. It has guided their transformation into citizens, and warriors, and leaders. VMI graduates have served with honor in our nation’s defense, just as many are doing today in Afghanistan and other lands. Since the September 11th attacks, many of VMI’s sons and daughters have defended America, and I mourn with you the 15 brave souls who have been lost. I join you in praying for the many VMI graduates and all Americans who are now serving in harm’s way. May God bless all who serve, and all who have served.

UAV intrusion: Iranian act of belligerence against US and Israeli military targets

DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis October 7, 2012,
However Israeli official spokesmen present the incident of Saturday, Oct. 6, the penetration of Israeli air space by a large unmanned helicopter should not have been allowed to happen. The surprise interloper should have been shot down before spending nearly half an hour over southern Israel. The incident showed ID intelligence and command not up to handling enemy surprises, even after countless drills and exercises.
Four months ago, on July 20, Hizballah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah said in a speech, “The resistance movement will surprise Tel Aviv in any future war.”

Romney to deliver foreign policy speech tonight

US Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney plans to declare his commitment to the notion of “a democratic, prosperous Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with the Jewish state of Israel,” according to advance excerpts of his remarks provided by his campaign released on Sunday.
“In this old conflict, as in every challenge we face in the Middle East, only a new president will bring the chance to begin anew,” Romney is billed to say. “It is time to change course in the Middle East.”
The speech marks an attempt to soften his stance on the peace process following leaked video footage last month where the presidential candidate questioned the feasibility of the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank.

Lara Logan brings ominous news from Middle East

This was no ordinary rubber chicken affair. That was my reaction to the extraordinary keynoter at Tuesday’s Better Government Association annual luncheon.
Lara Logan, a correspondent for CBS’ “60 Minutes,” delivered a provocative speech to about 1,100 influentials from government, politics, media, and the legal and corporate arenas. Such downtown gatherings are a regular on Chicago’s networking circuit. (I am a member of the BGA’s Civic Leadership Committee, and the Chicago Sun-Times was a sponsor).

How Hamas Terrorizes Gaza’s Citizens  Edit Link

The U.S., along with the European Union and Israel, considers the Palestinian Hamas regime ensconced in Gaza a terrorist organization primarily because of its use of suicide bombers and its covenant which vows to replace Israel with a Palestinian Islamist state by force of arms.  Hamas refuses to recognize Israel’s right to exist, much less make peace with it. The Guardianreported on January 8, 2009 that:
The incoming Obama administration prepared to abandon George Bush’s doctrine of isolating Hamas by establishing a channel to the Islamist organization, according to a source close to the transition team.  In 2006 the U.S. Congress voted into law a ban on any U.S. financial aid to Hamas.  Most recently, despite Congressional objections, the Obama administration [as reported by Breitbart.com] on April 13, 2012, sent $147 million in U.S. taxpayer dollars to Hamas-run Gaza for “humanitarian purposes.”
It has since been revealed, in a report by Human Rights Watch (HRW), that Hamas is perpetrating gross human rights abuses against its own Palestinian people. (Read more…)

Panic of the Progressives

“The past is never dead,” William Faulkner said, “it’s not even past.” The progressives’ fury over Obama’s meltdown in last week’s debate, and their desperate efforts to get him reelected by any means possible, have to be understood in the context of the long history of the left’s attempt to impose its ideology on the United States. Though successful at capturing the universities, schools, popular culture, and most churches, the left still lusts for the presidency, where the real power lies to change America in line with their ideology. Yet for the last four decades, the left has seen what appears to be victory slip from its grasp, as their presidential standard-bearer either lost the election or betrayed their ideals once in office.

Jordan’s politics in cross-hairs

Women hold signs as they demonstrate with others from the Islamic Action Front and other opposition parties to demand political reforms, in Amman October 5, 2012.
Last Friday’s anti-government demonstration in downtown Amman was the biggest in 21 months—since Jordanians launched their own version of the Arab Spring — with organisers saying it brought together no less than 60,000 demonstrators and official sources down sizing the number to just 8,000. As always in such cases, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. News agencies and independent observers estimated the number of demonstrators to be between 15,000 and 25,000. The message that Jordan’s largest opposition party, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), and about 80 opposition parties and groups, which had joined the mass protest, wanted to send to King Abdullah was resounding: Their demand for genuine political reforms is immutable.
