20th Anniversary Dinner
The Bruges Group spearheads the intellectual battle against the notion of "ever–closer Union" in Europe and, above all, against British involvement in a single European state.

Bruges Group Dinner
20th Anniversary of the Maastricht Rebellion
Notable guests include Rt Hon. Sir Peter Tapsell MP, Father of the House of Commons, and the Cabinet Ministers Rt Hon. Owen Paterson MP, Secretary of State for the Environment, and Rt Hon. Theresa Villiers MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

Ken Clarke has reignited the debate over Maastricht. On Friday 2nd November 2012 he said on the BBC's Daily Politics show,
“people should die of shame of the warnings they gave of what would happen if we were to sign up to the Maastricht Treaty”.

Yet the Maastricht Rebels were right. In November 1992 26 Conservative Members of Parliament defied the Government on the Paving Vote for the Maastricht Treaty. This was one of the most important votes in the House of Commons in the twentieth century.

The Bruges Group, who were instrumental in the rebellion, will like to mark the 20th anniversary of this occasion with you. We believe that celebrating the original fight to save the democratic nation-state will inspire politicians and opinion formers to demand an end to the damage done by the EU to our economy and our democracy.

We will host a dinner to be held at a prestigious venue close to Berkeley Square in the heart of Mayfair in the Ballroom of The Lansdowne Club, 9 Fitzmaurice Place, Mayfair, London W1J 5JD.

The 20th Anniversary Appeal will send a powerful message that there is another way, to be ignored by a government at its peril.

International Conference
Saying 'No' to the Single Market
On the 20th anniversary of the creation of the EU’s Single Market which came into being in 1992 the Bruges Group’s International Conference will expose how membership of the customs union is hurting our economy and preventing Britain from competing on the world stage. We intend to slay the myth that the EU’s Single Market is a free trade area; in fact it is more of a red tape area.

Many of the burdens on British businesses come from the UK being politically subsumed within the EU’s Single Market. Yet too many opinion formers in both the media and politics mistakenly believe that exiting the EU will endanger British businesses selling goods and services to those in the Single Market. We will show the facts and end the psychological dependence upon one of the major ways by which the EU runs affairs in this country.
