With an approval rating of 69%, Turkey remains the most popular country in the Middle East. However Turkey's reputation has suffered in Syria and Iraq. It's average approval rating stood at 78% in 2011. People from Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon were the most sceptical of the Arab Spring. In Syria only 21% felt that the Arab Spring was a good thing for the region and 14% thought that it served their own country well. By contrast, in Libya, 77% supported liked the Arab Spring. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey were believed to have made the greatest contribution to the Arab Spring with ratings registering 45%, 45% and 42% respectively. The only countries where people thought Turkey was a hostile power were Syria (65%) and Iraq (58%). In other countries at least 70% thought Turkey was very friendly.

In 2011, 51% of Middle Eastern nations thought Turkey should join the EU. In 2012, this support had declined to 39%, still much higher than the level of support within Turkey or the EU.
