Nick Robinson sums up Ed Miliband’s Today programme outing:
“you asked Ed Miliband for clarity on a referendum, he couldn’t give you that clarity”

One-term Dave says:

I dream of German-themed spanking parties. I have a fantasy where I grovel at Angela Merkel’s feet, and she shouts “Schweinhund” and makes me give her £19.2 billion of your money, every year, and then she gives me sheets and sheets of new laws designed to destroy our economy whilst benefiting hers.
In fact, it’s not a fantasy..

UPDATE:

Cabinet Office Spy’s “Specialist Policy” Mission

Yesterday’s poorly worded/suspicious Cabinet Office statement on Prince Charles’ spy in the heart of government had the distinct whiff of a cover-up. Just who is the mystery man, or lady, seconded from the Royal Household? Why is he, or she, there? What exactly is he, or she, doing? Guido has learned that the representative from the Household of the Prince of Wales’ remit centres around a “specialist policy role”He has reason to believe it is a lady as well.
Despite the obvious implication that someone with close links to the Royal Family is working on government policy, a Cabinet Office spokesman insists that is not the case and they have no role in legislation. The official kick back still refuses to reveal the staffer’s identity, this time on the rather tenuous grounds that it would not be fair since he/she is in a “relatively junior”. Senior sources in the department are now emphasising to Guido that the unnamed person’s role is unrelated to their work with the Prince of Wales and that high-security clearance is not “required”.
So why not just be completely transparent about the arrangement?
Maybe Dave could phone up that shady royal benefactor who got him his job, so we could get to the bottom of this once and for all…

Maid Mary Ann’s Misjudged Moan

The Independent’s Mary Ann Sieghart has joined in the ongoing debate about women hacks in Westminster. Guido was on about this last week, with the Guardian and Telegraph following up on the issue. Sieghart claims:
“It took years of campaigning for childcare to be seen as a mainstream political issue rather than a private matter for parents. That was because politicians didn’t think it was important and nor did political editors. They were, on the whole, workaholic men with wives at home.”
Which hasn’t gone down very well with those same male political editors:
Guido was particularly amused by the suggestion that Mary Ann wasn’t very happy with Andrew Neil and the BBC:
“I had the uncomfortable feeling all the way through that I was being forced to play second fiddle, but it wasn’t till I watched the programme back on iPlayer that I realised why. The presenter, Andrew Neil, had gone to Danny first with every single question and had often given him, but not me, the chance of a follow-up.”
If her choice of outfits for Brillo’s show was anything to go by , she can’t have been that cheesed off…

The Guardian’s Head of Media and Tech Dan Sabbagh has been promoted to National News Editor. After having a good war in the War on Murdoch he clearly deserved a battlefield promotion.
Congratulations…

Leveson Debate: Come See Mosley Get Another Spanking

Get Tickets The German-themed spanking party enthusiast and paymaster of the Hacked Off campaign, Max Mosley, supported by Murdoch-hating Chris Bryant and the media lawyer Charlotte Harris, will be opposing the contention that the Leveson proposals represent a fundamental threat to the freedom of the press. They will be debating against the mild, retiring Daily Mail columnist Richard Littlejohn, Media Select Committee chairman John Whittingdale and Guido. Andrew Neil will be refereeing the debate to ensure that no blood is spilt.
To say that there is a level of mutual contempt between Mosley/Bryant and Littlejohn/Guido is an understatement. They think we’re muckraking, knuckle dragging, right-wing tabloid rabble rousers and we think they’re just so embarrassed by their sexually incontinent, promiscuous indiscretions being revealed that they are campaigning to prevent future exposure of such behaviour. Guido would like to see as many of his readers at the event to ensure Mosley gets another public spanking. Given Max enjoys humiliation, he might even enjoy the night.
The debate is on Wednesday, January 30 at IET London, Savoy Place, WC2R 0BL. Tickets are available online from the Speccie.
