There is presently no European identity, nor the necessary pre-conditions for a European identity to be fostered in the near future. So where does this leave the future of the European Union? Without a mandate from the peoples of Europe, through a European identity, further European integration will be resisted

THE SPEAKERS
SIR RICHARD SHEPHERD, MP
Sir Richard Shepherd is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Aldridge Brownhills. He has been a champion for more open and transparent government and is known and respected for the long campaign he fought for freedom of information. Richard Shepherd is also a campaigner against compulsory metrication.

He has had a distinguished Parliamentary career. Previously he has been a winner of both The Spectator’s Award as Backbencher of the Year and Parliamentarian of the Year. Richard Shepherd was also a Maastricht Rebel and fought for a referendum on that Treaty. He lost the Whip in November 1994 after voting against the European Communities (Finance) Bill, but had it returned four months later.

PETER BONE, MP
Peter Bone is the Member of Parliament for Wellingborough. His vocal and principled opposition to both the European Union and the coalition gives him a high profile in the media. Peter is also one of the most rebellious MPs and, in terms of Parliamentary Questions, one of the most active. Peter’s, according to his voting record on European issues, is amongst the most consistent and Eurosceptic Members of Parliament.

His political interests include the European Union, parliamentary reform and human trafficking. Peter is a member of the all-party Better Off Out group of Parliamentarians.
