What happens when you complain to the BBC about blatant bias? Case study:

BBC Complaints - Case number CAS-1977145-M9GN5C
Complaint Summary: Plant in audience
Full Complaint: The BBC knowingly allowed a Labour plant to use offensive language against the UKIP member of the panel "disgusting" was the word used, then Dimbleby compounded the offence by repeating it. I am appalled at this bias on the part of the BBC which is obviously anti-UKIP. I have complained about this kind of issue before but you just keep on doing it.

THE BBC ANSWER
Dear -

Thanks for taking the time to contact the BBC about 'Question Time', broadcast on 7 March 2013.

The first thing to note is that we do not have a ban on people in our audiences having political affiliations. By its very nature, 'Question Time' attracts audience members who are interested in politics. It is only natural that some of these people will be involved with a political party.

We feel that on this occasion, Ms Rutland's contributions were appropriate to the style of the programme. 'Question Time' offers members of the public an opportunity to hold politicians to account. This often means robust exchanges and our audiences are encouraged to debate directly with the panel. We feel that David Dimbleby chaired the programme well.

In terms of any Twitter exchanges, it would of course be impossible for us to monitor the comments made by people invited to join the audience on social media outlets - either before or after the programme.

And finally, there is no truth in the allegation that Ms Rutland was planted. All of our audiences go through an application process and are selected purely from that.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.

Kind Regards
