Dear Friends and Supporters,

This week the European Parliament rejected Cameron’s EU Budget “deal”.  This is a mess he could easily have avoided if he had called the In/Out referendum now.  The Lisbon Treaty gives the European Parliament the power to ratify the EU budget, and the Leaders all wasted their time hammering out a deal that was never going to be accepted. What will happen now is anyone’s guess.  I bet Cameron wished he actually had given us the referendum he promised.

Either way, the deal would have been bad for Britain.  As Cameron admitted after the negotiations, our actual EU contributions were always going to go up.  This is simply unacceptable.

Crucially, this impasse has proved our point.  As we have been saying all the time, if Cameron cannot renegotiate the EU budget deal, he will never be able to renegotiate our terms of membership.  With all the fuss surrounding a measly 3% cut to the EU budget, imagine how difficult it will be to renegotiate the Common Agricultural Policy or repatriate social and welfare policies to member states?  The Council or the European Parliament won’t have it.

Business leaders are now among more and more voices joining our call for an early EU In/Out Referendum and piling the pressure on Cameron for a vote as soon as possible.  I was quoted in a Daily Express piece today demanding Cameron “man up” and call the referendum this parliament.  If he doesn’t then he must step aside for someone who will.

It doesn’t take a genius to see that the EU is taking us down with it.  On 1st January next year EU law opens up British borders to more Romanians and Bulgarians and it will cost us a fortune in many ways.  Even now, the EU is paying unemployed EU workers to get British jobs.  It’s a disgrace.

In 2015 EU laws on large combustion plants will shut a swathe of power stations.  To want to stay in this European Union is akin to saying we want to be a weaker, poorer and less influential country in the world.  We are called Great Britain for a reason – the clue is in the name.  We can only meet our potential after we Get Britain Out of the EU.

Unsurprisingly, this message did not go down well when I went to address a fringe meeting at the Liberal Democrat spring forum last Saturday.  I now know what it feels like to be the ‘only Eurosceptic in the village’! You can read my report on the Commentator website here.

Finally, thanks to everyone who ordered leaflets – you can view a samplehere.  We were able to produce these thanks to your donations.  We have already had orders for over 150,000 – way above our expectations.  This is the vital ground game to get our message out, and to persuade the politicians that the majority of Great British Public want to Get Britain Out.  The leaflets have all been shipped out today and should be with you shortly.  If you would like more, please reply with the amount and address I should send them to.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Best wishes,

Tim Aker
Campaign Director

P.S. If you can’t deliver leaflets, you can help us by donating so we can produce more literature and spread the message to the Great British Public.  You can donate via paypal or by cheque on our website here.
