It is really fantastic to see so many people turn out to help us fight against tax hikes, whether it is another rise in excise duties making a well-earned pint more expensive or higher business rates threatening the livelihoods of so many people running a small business. It has been an inspiring week. We also marked the 25th anniversary of the last great tax-cutting Budget in 1988 at a dinner with Lord Lawson. Supporting reform to Housing Benefit Jonathan Isaby argued that changes to Housing Benefit are necessary to give taxpayers a fair deal in oral evidence to the Welsh Affairs Select Committee. Taxpayers can’t be asked to support a lifestyle for benefit claimants that they cannot afford themselves.
