ABU QATADA DENIED BAIL

Home Office lawyers also confirmed yesterday that Qatada, 53, could be booted out of Britain “within weeks” to face terror charges in Jordan.
The hate preacher, who has been living off benefits, was given bail in November while fighting the Government’s attempts to deport him.
Since the police swoop in March, Qatada has been held at Belmarsh prison, south-east London. And yesterday an immigration judge refused bail and sent him back to jail.
Qatada’s lawyer argued he should be freed to spend time with his family before leaving the UK for Jordan, which he has said he will do once the countries have agreed a fair trial treaty.
But Mr Justice Irwin told a Special Immigration Appeals Commission that the radical cleric was a “threat to national security”.
The commission heard he breached a condition not to have mobile phones at his house.
Home Office lawyer Robin Tam QC said police also found cash and a memory stick storing extremist material, including references to al-Qaida.
