You might remember that two weeks ago I asked whether you could help with TPA campaigns in your area. We have had a fantastic response so far and, as our grassroots network grows, getting involved is not just an opportunity to do your bit for Britain and your local community; it is also a chance to make new friends and be part of a great team. Over the next week there are going to be two grassroots events: a social event in Birmingham for supporters in the area to meet up and plan new campaigns in the West Midlands and a high profile protest in Bridlington calling for the bungling councillors and officials who have spent tens of millions making a mess of the town centre to be held to account.

You should come along if you can. This week you can also win a copy of Lee Rotherham's new book by suggesting a new way of explaining the £1.2 trillion official national debt (the real debt is an even more frightening figure!) and help us stop council propaganda on the rates.

“Justice for Brid”

At 12.30pm this Saturday 4 May we are going to be holding a protest in the Town Hall Gardens – YO16 4LP – demanding those responsible for the failed development plan in Bridlington are held to account. Lots of people are already signed up to come on Facebook. Let us know if you would like to come or just turn up on the day.

Meet fellow activists in Birmingham

Michael Rouse has agreed to become our new grassroots coordinator in Birmingham. Are you interested in helping him with new campaigns in the West Midlands? If so please try and come along to the Victoria Bar, 48 John Bright Street at 7.30pm on Wednesday 8 May. If you can’t make it, let us know and we can put you in touch.

How would you explain the national debt?

Lee Rotherham has written a new book about the national debt. The official debt currently stands at around £1.2 trillion. That’s a lot of zeroes and hard to get your head around. We have a copy of the book to give away to the supporter who replies to this bulletin with the best way of putting that figure in context and explaining just how much debt the Government has racked up.

Public Accounts Committee calls for tax simplification

More and more people are realising that the answer to endless tax avoidance scandals is a simpler tax system so that we can trust everyone is paying no more and no less than their fair share. Jonathan Isaby made the case on BBC News that the strategic reforms recommended by the 2020 Tax Commission are the answer.
