Crisis: Spain, population shrinks in first

Out of 476 leaving, 59.000 Spanish. 314.000 entries foreigners

(ANSAmed) - MADRID, JUNE 25 - Spain's crisis is influencing its demography as for the first time in 40 years the population has dropped with a significant number of foreigners leaving the country along with Spanish nationals looking for a job abroad, the national statistics office said on Tuesday. Over the past year the population of residents had dropped by 162.390 units to 46.704.314 registered in 2012. Immigrants were 314.358 but those who left the country were more, 476.784 including 59.724 Spanish citizens and 417.023 foreigners.

Most of those who left Spain to go back home hailed from Brazil (9,9%), Bolivia (-9%), Ecuador (-7%), Argentina (-6%), Peru (-5,7%), Colombia (5,4%); on the rise were instead immigrants from the Dominican Republic (+2,7%), Great Britain (+2) and France (1,4%).

Italy's foreign residents outpacing population growth

Over four million non-Italians in country

(ANSA) - Rome, June 25 - Italy's foreign population grew by 7.4% in 2012, dwarfing the overall population growth of 0.5%, the national statistics agency reported Tuesday. According to Istat, last year 59,685,227 people resided in Italy. Of them, 4,300,000 were foreign citizens. Overall the population grew by 291,020 since the end of 2011.
