Secular and other Turks who refuse to submit to Islamist rule and oppression are standing their ground, showing enormous courage in the face of savage state violence.
The Islamist prime minister, Recep Erdogan, who clearly sees himself as a new sultan, out to Islamize his nation and restore its empire, is defiant and determined to crush the opposition. His is the side of burqas and headscarves and barbaric Islamic law. The side of clerical fascism.
Which is the side that the United States, under President Obama, is supporting … in democracy's name.

All progressive, democratic gains since World War II are targeted for destruction. Rollback rules; reactionary policies of the worst kind--in the name of "reform"--are the order of the day. The overall objective appears to be a lowering of the standard of living--by practically any and all means necessary--of ordinary Europeans to the level of Chinese workers. Younger workers are mostly unemployed; older workers, essentially marked for extermination. Mass starvation looms.

A timely essay by David Fishman reminding us that Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec, Majdanek, Sobibor were liberated by the Soviet Union.
If not for the Red Army, Fishman asserts, "there would not have been a victory against Nazi Germany, and there would probably not have been any Jewish survivors in Europe…. The Soviet Union lost 10 million soldiers fighting the Nazis."
About 500,000 Jewish soldiers served in the Red Army during World War II. An estimated 120,000 were killed in combat and in the line of duty; 80,000 were murdered as prisoners of war. More than 160,000 earned citations, with over 150 designated Heroes of the Soviet Union--the highest honor awarded to soldiers in the Red Army. About 7,000 are alive today; most of them live in Israel.

Informed sources say the project aims to aggregate audiences "for advertisers in the Global era" on a wholly unprecedented scale.
The programming will be available to practically anyone with a broadband mobile device or Wi-Fi-enabled computer, sources say.
A unique, communication feature will add interest and help to create communities, or interest groups, around the programming, the sources add.
Information about the planned network's content or theme is not yet available.
News of the ambitious project comes at a time of accelerating audience fragmentation as social media and mobile devices compete for the attention and time of consumers of entertainment and information.
But traditional TV is far from over, contrary to countless predictions, dating back well over a decade, that the model's days were numbered. Traditional TV--meaning, 24/7 always-on, day-parted and mainly prerecorded programming--remains dominant in the United States and abroad even as streaming and mobile video use grows.
