Understanding politics in Israel: The limousine theory

Into the Fray: How is it that, time after time, the electorate ends up with a gov’t adopting precisely the policy it urged voters to reject?
On the one hand, the state invests billions of dollars in building a modern army; purchasing state-of-the-art warplanes and constructing modern airfields; equipping and training reserve battalions; and deploying Arrow missiles. All this is right and proper and necessary. But on the other hand, it has permitted a situation to develop in which these selfsame modern, expensive systems are liable to be rendered irrelevant. On the basis of such wishful thinking, battles, and wars, are lost
    – Yuval Steinitz, “When the Palestinian Army Invades the Heart of Israel,” Commentary, December 1, 1999.
To a dispassionate observer, unfamiliar with the mechanisms – and machinations – of Israeli politics, the events of the past two-and-a-half decades must seem to defy explanation, flying in the face of both logic and common sense, and a gross violation of the rationale of democratic principles.

The Deception Marathon of Benghazigate/Bostongate A Conspiracy?

Jim Horn knows whereof he speaks. He came to see me a few years ago in Jerusalem and we had a great chat. He brought me a copy of his book,DiDiDawDawDiDi. His bio discloses that he worked for the State Department for a quarter century and got to know Islam and the CIA. In this article he says the cover-up was to avoid news of the gunrunning to al Qaeda becoming public. We need to demand that the Congress investigate deeper into the cause behind the Islamic terrorist bombing in Boston. Investigate the reasons why Benghazi was attacked by Islamic terrorists. What was really going on in Benghazi that Clinton and Obama are so desperate to bury. There are links tying them together. Some dot connecting is done here.
The Obama administration, bereft of moral clarity and decency is demonstrably the least trustworthy and most corrupt and corrupted administration this country has ever experienced. There may be people who will disagree with this assessment because cognitive skills do happen to escape some people. The buck stops at Obama’s desk.

Israel’s Settlers Are Here to Stay

WHATEVER word you use to describe Israel’s 1967 acquisition of Judea and Samaria — commonly referred to as the West Bank in these pages — will not change the historical facts. Arabs called for Israel’s annihilation in 1967, and Israel legitimately seized the disputed territories of Judea and Samaria in self-defense. Israel’s moral claim to these territories, and the right of Israelis to call them home today, is therefore unassailable. Giving up this land in the name of a hallowed two-state solution would mean rewarding those who’ve historically sought to destroy Israel, a manifestly immoral outcome.
Of course, just because a policy is morally justified doesn’t mean it’s wise. However, our four-decade-long settlement endeavor is both. The insertion of an independent Palestinian state between Israel and Jordan would be a recipe for disaster.

Netanyahu is losing control of LIkud

PM is engaged in battle for supremacy inside his own party.
This week, while uprisings were gaining steam in Turkey and Syria, elections were about to take place in Iran, and a diplomatic plan was being hatched in Washington, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was focused on defending Israel from an enemy.
Was it Syrian President Bashar Assad? Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei? Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan? No, no and no.
The answer is Emanuel Weiser.
Who is Weiser, you might ask? He is a religious-Zionist Tel Aviv lawyer who has twice run unsuccessfully for a slot on the Likud’s Knesset list. The scion of a Belgian Betar commander, he heads an organization that represents the ideas of the Likud’s ideological father Ze’ev Jabotinsky.
Weiser is running for the chairmanship of the Likud’s internal court, a post the importance of which cannot be underestimated, especially in Netanyahu’s eyes.
