(ANSA)  -  Rome, July 25  -  Two hotels closed down each day in the first six months of the year, according to data released on Thursday by tourist association head, Claudio Albonetti of Assoturismo Confesercenti.

The outlook is even worse when it comes to restaurants, with some five closing each day for an approximate total of 146 a month, Albonetti said.

Albonetti urged southern Italian regions to promote low cost and social tourism efficiently in a bid to capture the attention of holidaymakers.
