Crash in Eilat: A light aircraft that had taken off from Hertzlia airfield crashed this afternoon (Thursday) near the Eilat airport. One of the passengers was killed and two others were badly wounded – all in their 50’s.
The aircraft crashed while the plane was approaching for landing, for a reason that is unknown. The three, the pilot and two passengers, were trapped inside the plane and rescue services extracted them and two were taken to hospital.
Israel’s Airports Authority said that the plane’s crew did not declare an emergency and the plane was seen “diving” towards the ground. The spokesman added that following the accident Eilat airport was shut down entirely, and after a while it resumed partial activity. The crash site was sealed off and public was asked to stay away from the area.
