Sunday, Aug. 4, as US missions closed in 22 countries, the NYPD went on high alert. Security was beefed up at houses of worship and transportation hubs, although Police Commissioner Ray Kelly complained about “a lack of specific information.” Saturday, National Security Adviser Susan Rice convened security officials, after which the White House stated: “Given the nature of the potential threat… regular inter-agency meetings were held” to ensure the US government "is taking appropriate steps.” This statement omitted to specify the nature of the “potential threat.”
