Fatah: Netanyahu’s Preferred Peace Partner

Prof. Paul Eidelberg

First: Ponder nine of the Fatah Constitution’s 27 paragraphs (which I published eleven years ago in my book Jewish Statesmanship). The following is well known to Israel’s political echelon:

A. Principles

1. Palestine is part of the Arab world, the Palestinians are part of the Arab nation and their struggle is part of the struggle of the Arab nation.

2. The Palestinian struggle is an integral part of the worldwide struggle against Zionism, colonialism and international imperialism.

3. The liberation of Palestine is a national duty demanding physical and spiritual assistance from the whole Arab nation.

4. The Zionist movement is racist, colonialist and aggressive in its ideology, its goals, is organization and its methods.

5. The foundation of Israel’s existence in Palestine is the Zionist occupation, based on colonialism.

B. Goals

6. The complete liberation of Palestine and the economic, political, military and cultural elimination of Zionism.

7. Establishment of an independent, democratic state in all of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.

C. Method

8. A revolutionary military struggle as the sole method of liberating Palestine.

9. A military struggle is not a tactic but a strategy, and the military revolution of the Arab Palestinian nation is a decisive component in the struggle for the liberation and the removal of the Zionist entity; the struggle will not be complete until the Zionist state is destroyed and Palestine, in its entirety will be liberated.

Second: Now ask yourself: Is Israel today better off strategically and diplomatically than it was when Netanyahu first became this country’s Prime Minister 15 years ago?

THE FATAH-HAMAS ALLIANCE

Prof. Paul Eidelberg

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s professed outrage about the Fatah-Hamas Alliance is pure theater—nay, sheer hogwash. Netanyahu knows very well that there has never been any substantive difference between the Fatah Charter and the Hamas Covenant: both call for Israel’s liquidation. First, let us examine the Hamas Covenant officially known as "The Islamic Resistance Movement."

"Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it ..." Thus begins the Hamas Covenant. To grasp the true nature of the war being waged against the Jewish State of Israel, and not only by the Arabs in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, let us examine this Covenant of Death. In discussing Islam's war against the Jewish state, the Covenant refers to the Arabs of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza as but a single "squadron" of the "vast Islamic world." "Our struggle against the Jews is very great," and this struggle will go on "until the enemy is vanquished and Allah's victory is realized."

The Hamas Covenant also refers to the Islamic Resistance Movement as "one of the wings of [the] Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine." It calls upon all Muslims to "raise the banner of Jihad in the face of the oppressors, so that they would rid the land and the people of their uncleanness, vileness and evils." Contrary to the puerilities of the media, the Muslim Brotherhood is not a fanatical sect of Islam; it is Islam authentic and resurgent. Again: "The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinguished Palestinian movement, whose allegiance to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Islam over every inch of Palestine." The Movement has the support of Egypt. Thus, when the Egyptians took over Taba from the Israelis, they raised banners declaring "TABA TODAY, PALESTINE TOMORROW."

"The Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to the realization of Allah's promise, no matter how long that should take. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: 'The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight and kill the Jews, when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslim, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.'"

Unlike Israel’s cult of peace, Muslims regard "Death for the sake of Allah [as] the loftiest of wishes." Hence these Muslims are prepared to drench "Palestine" with blood. They are not about to be bought off with the bourgeois policy of "territory for peace" or with the promise of bourgeois abundance. This policy arouses in Arabs contempt for Jews. It makes Jewish blood cheap by making the Land of Israel cheap. It is precisely this betrayal of the Jewish Covenant of Life that incites the Islamic Covenant of Death.

Again Hamas: "The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic WAQF consecrated for the future Muslim generations until Judgment Day. It, or any part of [this land], should not be squandered; and no part of it should be given up."

With utter contempt for Israeli prime ministers like Binyamin Netanyahu who calls for "peaceful co-existence" between Jews and Arabs—a subtle manifestation of moral equivalence—the Hamas Covenant of Death proclaims: "There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors."

Israel's ruling elites lack the intestines to face the totalitarian dimensions of this Covenant: "The day the enemies usurp part of Muslim land, Jihad becomes the individual duty of every Muslim. It is [therefore] necessary to instill in the minds of the Muslim generations that the Palestinian problem is a religious problem, and should be dealt with on this basis." Hence the Covenant enjoins upon Muslims the following oath: "I swear by the holder of Muhammad's soul that I would like to invade and be killed for the sake of Allah, then invade and be killed, and then invade again and be killed."

Hard for the demagogues of peace to take such heady stuff seriously. Having learned nothing from the past, these timid politicians persist in negotiating with the successors of the Nazis, the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority, knowing that the Hamas Covenant proclaims: "The Palestine Liberation Organization is the closest to the heart of the Islamic Resistance Movement." The Hamas Covenant concludes by emphasizing that Jihad is "the only way to liberate Palestine. There is no doubt about the testimony of history. It is one of the laws of the universe and one of the rules of existence. Nothing can overcome iron except iron."

The Hamas Covenant expresses the genocidal goal of the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority. Article 12 of the PA Charter calls for "the liberation of Palestine completely and the elimination of the state of the Zionist occupation economically, politically, militarily, and culturally." Should there be any question regarding Fatah's objectives, Article 17 states: "The armed popular revolution is the only inevitable way to the liberation of Palestine." Article 19 adds: "The struggle will not end until the elimination of the Zionist entity and the liberation of Palestine."

No Government of Israel has had the courage to eliminate the Fatah-cum-Hamas terror regime from the Land of Israel. But to cover its cowardice, Mr. Netanyahu persists in deceiving the people of Israel about the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority, as if its alliance with Hamas represents a basic change in the PA’s character—as if this gang of Jew-hating Muslims was ever committed to peace with Israel. Shame on Israel’s prime minister!
