The Unpublished Reason Why Arabs Hate Jews: Let’s Get Real

Paul Eidelberg

Countless articles have been written trying to explain why Arabs, in particular the so-called Palestinian Arabs, hate Jews. Actually, the explanation is embarrassingly simple: The Arabs hate Jews because the Jews refuse to hate the Arabs!

The Arabs deem this Jewish indifference insulting. After all, Arab leaders and propagandists outdo Julius Streicher and his Nazi tabloid Der Stürmer in their obscene hatred of Jews. What is more, Arabs not only enjoy murdering and disemboweling Jews—including women and children—but they constantly promise Allah to wipe Israel off the map. Nothing frustrates them more than the unwillingness of Jews to engage in "reciprocity." Nothing less would convince them that Jews take Islam seriously. Muslims look upon the Jew’s blasé attitude toward Islam as a denial of Allah. This infuriates them. Nor is this all.

Arabs see the failure of Jews to reciprocate Arab hatred as a ploy to appear morally superior to Muslims, when, so far as Muslims are concerned, murderous hatred of the enemy is the highest virtue, except martyrdom in killing Jews.

Jews fail to see that offering Palestinian Arabs land for peace is a double insult. It not only trivializes Islam, but it also trivializes Judaism and therefore diminishes the possible grandeur of a Muslim victory over the Jews. Muslims want a serious rival, not a rabbit. What would have been the glory of David to have swatted a fly?

So it’s sheer nonsense on the part of PM Netanyahu to call on the Palestinian Arabs to cease their murderous vilification of Jews and accept Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people. This is equivalent to asking Muslims to renounce their religion, burn the Quran, transform their mosques into casinos, and inform Allah to take an extended vacation. Is this what Bibi means by "realism"? Let’s get real.

For starters, let’s examine a study by American pollster Stanley Greenberg on the attitudes of Palestinian Arabs reported in the Jerusalem Post on June 15, 2011 (margin of error 3.1 percent). The survey was conducted in partnership with the Beit Sahour-based Palestinian Center for Public Opinion and sponsored by the Israel Project, an international non-profit organization that provides journalists and leaders with information about the Middle East. Here are some of the findings:

1) 31% accepted a two-state solution while 64% rejected it.

2) 66% said the Palestinians’ real goal should start with a two-state solution but then move to it all being one Palestinian state.

3) 92% said Jerusalem should be the capital of Palestine.

4) 72% backed denying the thousands of years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

5) 62% supported kidnapping IDF soldiers and holding them hostage.

6) 53% were in favor in teaching songs about hating Jews in Palestinian schools.

7) When given a quote from the Hamas Charter about the need for battalions from the Arab and Islamic world to defeat the Jews, 80% agreed.

8) 73% agreed with a tradition ascribed to the prophet Muhammad about the need to kill Jews hiding behind stones and trees.

9) 45% believed in the Hamas Charter’s statement that the only solution to the Palestinian problem was Jihad.

Now, in view of the preceding, should the Netanyahu government pursue a policy of "reciprocity"? To do so, it would have to arouse among Jews a hatred of Arabs comparable to the Arab hatred of Jews. How’s that for both "reciprocity" and "proportionality."

Let’s get real. There’s a war going on. Time to think of how to win it. Stop thinking like Mother Theresa and Barack Obama and start thinking like Clausewitz and King David.
